Greetings to the Critique Club J

I have assigned ALL of the photos in these two challenges. If you are unable to do all these critiques, please start with the lowest ranking photos in the Motion challenge and work your way up. If you know that you will not attempt all of them, please let me know as soon as possible so that I may reassign them to others who will take extras.

I also have no easy way to validate that the assignments have been completed. It takes quite a bit of time to go look at each photograph to verify this. Please let me know as soon as possible if you know you will not be able to complete these assigned photos…

Hey John, I see by your list that you are assigning all the photo's to be critiqued. Don't you think that critiques should be by request? All the other photo sites out there (that have any stature) do not take it for granted that people want there images critiqued in an open forum.

Personally I don't care. Look at my images and say what you want. I think feedback is good. But I only think it is good if it comes from people I know and respect and who seem to have the same style that I like and enjoy. I am new here. I don't really know anyone. There are a few photographers here already that I really enjoy viewing their images. I have already emailed them and asked for their opinions of my work off this site (web page, pbase, photo.net galleries).

I think if people want the club to critique an image it should be by request form and then they could get 35 opinions. In that group of 35 there are bound to be enough "style matches" that the critique will mean something.

Case in point. I love shooting BW. Some don't. Some can't stand looking at an image that doesn't have color. Now say that person is assigned to critique my image. Well right off the bat they don't like it. The critique has immediately become meaningless and a waste of my time and the reviewers.

I would rather email all of you in a global email addy and say "hey look at this image".

Just my opinion.

Dave

Dave,

We are working on a system to handle the assignments. This system, hopefully, will allow the photographer to indicate if they want a critique or not. However, it will not allow you to select who gives the critique.

I hope that our group doesn't contain people who are closed minded towards specific types of images such as black and whites. If you get a comment like that from a group member, let us know and we will take a look into it...

I'm sorry, but I already know that I won't have the time to write critiques for 8 photos. I think I can handle only 4. So I'll do 65,97,129,161 from the Motion challenge. Please reassign the other ones.

I think we should recruit more people. Is it ok, if I encourage people who thank me for the critique done on their photo to join the CC and do the same? I think even if they would start with just one photo it would help. Or would that be too much organisational overhead for you? If so (which I could understand) then I'll wait until there is a system implemented to the site to handle the assignments.

I think that we can post the links to the images we finished. Then you only have to click on the link to see the critique and can check them off on your list.

Holy geeeeeeeeeee whiz... I was just thinking I could do a few, but 7?? No way dude. Modem and limited usage hours won't allow that. If someone needs help & you wanna throw a few my way this week then I'll help out. After the holidays, I can probably join on for real.

Want me to do the rest of Stephan's?

For those who can't do 7 photo's, my recommendation is to do the ones in the motion challenge first. Most photo's in the Free Study challenge received a lot of comments from members during voting.

I am done with the motion pictures.

Now I will go for the free study, comment a bit on the challenges I already voted on and think about the two new ones. It was that I had some time today (still an hour left over here in The Netherlands), I am not going to do more and I still think four is enough.

I got several good comments on my picture during the Free Study challenge (ended up #59) so I sent the person assigned to my photo a private message saying they could skip it. Until there is the option for members to say if they want the critique or not I think I will use this method - unless I see a different recommendation. I appreciate all the time the members are taking to do this - and don't want someone spending time on something they don't need to.

John, putting a check box on everyone's preference page where they could indicate whether or not they want CC critiques should be a fast and easy thing to do. The assignment could be automated later because it would take a lot longer to program. As long as you had a list of people that indicated they wanted a critique from the preferences, you could assign the photos manually until that part was automated later. Just a suggestion to maybe get the number of critiques that we have to do down to a reasonable level. We might be doing a lot that people don't care about.
I've done 4 of my 7 so far.
Richard

I think we are covered for this week. If you would like to jump in full time after the first of the year, we would love to have you :) Currently, we ask for at least 4 critiques a week.. I just assigned everything so that people could do extras if they want to. In my original post, I asked for at least 4... :)

John,
I'll take a couple of others if you know some won't get done.
I'd rather critique than vote.

120 is assigned so you should get a critique on it... :)
