A friend of mine has turned me on to shooting Eagles. Such a challenge these things are. But I'm loving it, and I think getting a bit better every time I go out. Please post your Eagles photos if you have them.

Yeah some aren't Eagles but they are shots taken while out looking for Eagles.

Would be if I still lived in Idaho, perfect time of year there.
BTW, nice shots..

Would love to, but don't see them very often. Found one in Minnesota when we went back for Christmas.

what's funky about this shot is that it looks so fake -- but this is how it actually turned out because of the hazy winter sky.

Nice shots Matt and Wendy. I saw 2 eagles today, but they were way to far off in the distance to get a decent shot.I'll have to go back to the area and try again.

I like to shoot wedge tailed eagles when I get the chance but I don't get the chance very often.

For those along the Mississippi, here's a link to weekly counts for the locks along the river.

Thanks Kirbic, unfortunately they don't go as far south as I am. I go to the Alton Il area which is just over from St. Louis. Went a couple of weeks ago and saw 40 on our trip. There have been 4 behind where I work this week due to the river being frozen over. I'm loving it, but really longing for long glass. Canon is sending me a 500MM F4 to evaluate. I might have to add one to the bag.

Matt, it sure looks like you are in the hot spot this winter. The prolonged cold we've had seems to have driven them farther south in search of more open water. Last year, lock & Dam 19 had upwards of 400 at some points, this year, not so much, and even worst further north...

yup! That's the only reason I had an eagle shot, it was along the Mississippi in Minnesota. In the spring, you could drive down by Red Wing and see them just sitting out on the ice.

Actually I meant the link with the Eagle numbers, not the actual birds. LOL We have had a really good year so far with birds. A few of the photos I posted are from about a mile from behind my work, the Mississippi is frozen and they followed a small tributary back to find some open water to fish. I'm having a blast doing this. First year I've ever went out and shot birds at all.

I feel like I cheated... but these were taken at a rescue wildlife sanctuary in our area.

I'm in Minneapolis and I try to get down to the Red Wing/Wabasha area at least once each spring. They have their annual event SOAR at the National Eagle Center in Wabasha each March. The water stays open at Wabasha year round so a lot of eagles hang out there in the winter. I'll try to remember to add some pictures when I get home tonight.

Nice shots Zues.

For anyone looking to find events. Here is a list by state

I've shot eagles before.

Pretty tasty. Somewhere between Whooping Crane and Spotted Owl.

Yeah, yeah.

I couldn't resist, and I'm sure people would have been disappointed in me otherwise :)

Like the OP, I got sucked into shooting eagles this winter when I found out that they hang out along the Delaware Rive, about an hour from my place. I've been out there a bunch of times, and even farther into NY twice. It is a huge challenge to get good shots of them, but it's also a lot of fun.

Here's a guy who lives with Eagles, or it seems like it anyway.
