I'm sorry if this is not the kind of first post dpchallenge likes.

I am wondering if we are allowed to purchase images on this site? If so, how do I go about doing it?

Thank you.

In the menu bar, see "DPC Prints"...

That will work or you can always contact the individual photographer. Most of them would be happy to sell you an image.

Thanks.

I had checked into the DPCPPrints but I didn't see the pictures I was looking for.

I will contact the individual photographer. Has this been done before?

I think any photographer that gets such a request from you would be incredible flattered :)

I've never bought a picture before.

What type of 'rights' to do I tell the photographer I want to purchase if I plan to resell the picture?

If you are simply buying a physical print and re-selling it, you don't need any "rights" from the photographer; it is tangible property and yours to keep, sell, or give away.

If you want to make reproductions of the image to sell you will need a specific copyright license in the form of a written contract outlining exactly what you can do with the image, such as the number and sizes of prints, whether it will be used in a calendar or on a product (such as a coffee mug), in an ad or on a website, etc. Typcally you would not be able to re-sell the image (file) to others for stock use, in a web template, etc.

You know I am have been dying to ask this question for a while, just never could find the right time. SO here goes

If you went to a stock site and outright bought a shot on there. You own it lock stock and barrel right? So if you do, what is preventing you from sticking it back up on a stock site and using it?

SO that is my question of the day

actually you DON'T own it lock, stock, and barrel. you license it from the stock agency and are allowed to use it in accordance with the terms spelled out in the license, of which one is that you are expressly prohibited from reselling it.

but I noticed that you can pay a big lump sum for a shot and then it is yours and can not be resold or used again, isnt that the same thing???

it all depends on the license and/or terms of sale. you may purchase an exclusive license, meaning that no one else can license or use the image during the term of the license (1 month, 1 year, 5 years, whatever). you *may* convince someone to sell you the copyright, which means that you *can* do with it whatever you want, including licensing it to others.

where people get into trouble is when they use an image without the appropriate rights or permissions. it is up to the copyright holder to define those rights and permissions. in other words, you can come into my house to play, but these are the rules. break the rules, and these are the consequences.

Are you sure it is okay to ask a photographer if they are willing to sell their images? I would assume if they wanted to sell them they would put them on DPCPrints, right?

A lot of us dont put images up on dpPrints unless there is a request, or it ribbons etc........

Send the photographer a PM stating what you want to do with the image, and go from there. Some of the people here are professionals, a lot are not, but most will be flattered that you are interested and willing to at least discuss options............

Same here, I just sold a large print on redbubble the other day. And I have licensed a few images too.

I have tried to post URL of the images that I'm interested in but I get this message:
"Posting Error

Sorry.
