Question: Has anybody started booking flights, hotel...anything?

I just want to get a little clue as to our number. Also, recommending Hotels is fine but it might cause tons of confusion and will guarantee nobody gets a group rate if you're all scattered throughout the city. If you have suggestions please pass them by me and I can research the facts because someone suggested a Hotel a few pages back but mentioned the rates they are charging this week and I assure you they WILL be higher around June. In fact, I looked at that Hotel and the rates with management and they will be 25-30% higher by the summer. So again, please don't confuse the issue and at the same time you are all free to do whatever you do but keeping our group intact and manageable is a huge undertaking, in a city of 8 million. A lot of people shouting out ideas will make things difficult on me. I want to insure the whole event works smoothly and comes off in one piece.

Cheers!

Penny and I think we have a studio apartment available but it's not nailed down yet; she has friends who live in Connecticut and keep a place in Manhattan, but their kids sometimes use it also so that's all being looked into now, timing-wise. That's why we haven't booked a hotel or anything...

I do have a reservation at the Edison Hotel, but still need to book my flight. I'm going to be arriving the 3rd, leaving the 9th. I have a tentative roommate but if she cannot come I will definitely be open to sharing the room (it has two double beds) at a little over $100 per person per night when the cost is split.

I have a room booked at the Millenium Broadway....

I'm just coming for the day on Saturday, so no room needed. But when it gets closer I'll need a meeting point & time. I'll probably need to leave my house at like 5am or something to take a train in, unless someone has some spare parking. I'm not totally adverse to driving in.

My flights are booked and I'm definitely coming!! I'll be arriving on the 3rd and staying until the 13th.
I don't have anything booked accommodation wise, as I wouldn't have a clue where to start. I'm hoping you can help me out there Steve! : ) I'd love to share with someone to keep the costs down, so gimme a yell if you're interested. : )

I'm stopping in LA on my way over, so if anyone can recommend a place to stay for a few days I'd love to hear from you.
Cheers folks, really looking forward to meeting everyone!! : )

I'm very interested in going! There doesn't happen to be anyone driving from Toronto or Detroit is there? Also I'd be interested in sharing the cheapest hotel around :)

Looks like it's time for me to try to convince my family to take a vacation to New York.

Cool....anyone else close to booking?

I guess at this point, I'm kinda looking for some sort of timeframe as when we're meeting for the "Official" part of the event. I live in somthing of an urban backwater, so my transportation options are limited. I found out I can drive, but it'll cost me $55 a day for the car in parking. It'll cost me all but $100 by train, so that's not out of the question, just that 4ish hour drive......

But that frees me up time-wise.

Have you framed up any plans so far as to meeting place & time?

I am coming Saturday morning to Sunday evening.

Saturday...probably around 12:00 or 12:30 (could be 1:00 PM). I would like to give people who are driving in, just for the day some time to get it together. I assume some people that are already in town might want to do a casual breakfast or whatever before the meet up.

I will have a loose itinerary or route and request peoples phone/cell numbers so, if they are late they can call and rendez-vous with the group.

If you're only in for one day $55 isn't that bad otherwise I would say, take the bus/train.

Oh, cool! The train gets into Penn Station at 10:49, Saturday A.M. (In a perfect world), but I thought that would be too late!

I can get one out Sunday as late as 6:05 P.M. That'd prolly be a decent trip.

If I drove, I'd leave REALLY early Staurday morning, hopefully getting there 9ish, and would stay 'til end of day Sunday......think they'd consider that one day at the hotel for the $55 parking fee?.......8>)

I've heard you New Yawkers are pretty stingy with your parking!.....8>)

Really, it seem like it'd be smartest to take the train then I don't have the drive time on either end. MapQuest says it's a three and a half hour drive.

What train would you be taking Jeb? I haven't started really looking into them yet and am debating between driving to Philly for a train or driving to North Jersey for a train. Philly would obviously be a shorter drive.

Well, I'm pretty sure anything I take would roll thru Philly, so it'd be nada to hook up.

ETA: Yep! The Keystone 660 leaves Harrisburg with me, stops and grabs you in Philly, then rumbles on into the Big Apple!......8>)

Cool, I'll look into detail from ya later and we can hook up on the way. I plan on going home that night though, so I guess I'll have to travel alone back.

Somehow I gotta try to make this one! By hook or crook. Definitely sign me up. I'm going to come even if I can only make one day.

I'm just going for a day. I'm going to meet up with Jeb in Philly and catch the train if you want to hook up too.

OK Penny and I are definitely IN. At least for Fri, Sat, and Sun nights, and MAYBE for Thurs and Mon nights as well. We won't be spending all this time trucking around in mobs with DPCers of course, but we will anyway be in NYC for a substantial length of time. Her friend is making their studio pied-a-terre available to us; all we know right now is, it's in Manhattan; not sure what neighborhood yet.
