This is great. I'm looking into some Hotel deals that will hopefully fit into people cost range. It's not too terribly cheap but I may be able to get a slight discount if 5 rooms are booked at any one place. I'll try to post two places to avoid confusion as inexpensive and moderate/inexpensive. I assume anyone that want's more luxury can find what they want easily enough, on their own.

SandyP, from a few weeks back.

Yep, June generally comes after April. See you there! :-)

We were looking for something to do in June and an excuse to get back to NYC. Pencil the wife and I in as attendees.

Count me in as well. June is a far ways ahead but I'll be mindfull of the date. I really want to make it.

The view from the little park under the Manhattan Bridge in DUMBO was/is great. For an evening shoot I'd pick that or the Top of The Rock location.

Just a link I came upon yesterday. Nice blog from a photog who's shooting NYC street videos with the new DSLRs //www.mikekobal.com/blog

YES!!! I may bring my 14 year old son, but he's cool and knows a bunch of the DC photog group already.

Suggestions are great but there are way, way, way too many good choices to settle on one, that will cover every base.

Chinatown is amazing, for example but it's also...kinda dangerous and nearly impossible (100% impossible) to keep a crowd together. Trust me...some people will move fast while others will spend 30-40 minutes shooting fish bones in the street. Been there...

One thing I can say for sure. I have no desire to show people or spend any time at "Tourist Traps". If there's one thing I can offer, it's to show people the real New York and real New Yorkers, as opposed to the places we generally try to avoid, as much as possible (ie: tourist traps).

I have three target-rich walks, in mind with plenty of variety and a plan, loose enough to let people roam free and keep the group together at the same time. Believe me, that will be a huge challenge that can't be underestimated or overlooked.

This is EXACTLY my hope for the GTG and I place full trust in you to pick the spots. Also keep in mind that adding and day or two on either side of the GTG will allow for a good bit of time to take in many of the tourist traps as well.

No interest here in the "regular" view, either.

Show me the real NYC, please.....

Put me on the list please! I'd love to meet so many dpc'ers in such a fun place.

I plan on staying a few extra days to do the tourist stuf too. I want to see a Broadway show and check out the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This is exciting!!

Could we get a list of attendees started in the parent post please?

What day of the week are you picking? Even though Saturday is great day, both B&H Photo and Adorama are not open. I vowed to never go to NYC again unless I could go to B&H Photo. Plus I shoot weddings and summer Saturdays are rough.

I am interested.

Well, I figure B&H won't directly be part of the GTG but I know almost everyone will want to stop by. The main day will be Saturday for the day trippers who live around the city, that aren't staying in Hotels/wherever over night. I assume some people from way out of town will come in Thursday/Friday and leave on Sunday...?

So, I'm planning two walk-arounds (Sat. & Sun.) with quick lunch stops and I figure a nice dinner thing, somewhere on Saturday night. Sunday morning will be a good time to visit B&H as I'm trying to find and inexpensive and moderate Hotel in midtown for the crowd, a quick walk away from the store, it should be easy to manage a few hours in the AM.

Fetor - When I get the energy, I'll set up an attendee list and I'll keep it here in this thread.

I plan to stay more than a day or two, and am interested in staying with or near other DPCers doing the same. Looking forward to hotel recommendations!

I'll be a day tripper, and will probably try to arrange to meet Jeb on a train. LOL! I hate driving in NYC, not to mention trying to park.

I forgot about B&H, that's worth the trip for me. Oh, and meeting you all again would be great too ;)

If funds permit, I think the wife and I will try something like Thursday through Tuesday. I'd imagine that most of that would be in the city, but we may poke around elsewhere depending on how proud the midtown area is of their hotels rooms at the time. We stayed that the Hudson New York when we were up just after last Christmas. It was a bit pricey, but priceline made it bearable. The place was small, but really nice. I am really interested to see what Steve comes up with as far a group pricing goes. And, for putting all this time into it Steve, mark me down as covering your dinner the first night. I have seen the time it takes to get a GTG like this going, and we really do appreciate it!

Now I think I'll try and talk the girls into coming along with.......that way I can shoot both days and either join the festivities with y'all Saturday night, or see what Lisa & Eleanor wanna do.

They won't wander with me during the day, but they love to crawl their own NYC.

I can hear credit cards weeping piteously already! LOL!!!

ETAS: The kid may not want to go 'cause that might be the weekend before finals, but I got permission to spend the weekend! Woot!

Oh, I don't think Steve will be able to buy a drink or a bite all weekend.

We'll duct tape his wallet pocket shut! LOL!!

I'm planning a trip to Europe around the time this takes place. I may just drop in for a couple of weeks on my way there : )

Here are the B & H Store hours. Since the store is closed on Saturday, you may want to visit on Friday morning or Sunday.

Somehow, I'd be surprised if there was much of anyone at DPC that did NOT know B&H is closed Saturdays......or Adorama!.....8>)

I'll be driving up to Westchester County Thursday night so I can leave my car with a friend. I'd be down in the city Friday morning if anyone wants to wander. Friday and Saturday I will be needing a hotel room (willing to share to cut costs). I am so looking forward to this...
