Well...... since new Canon users are announcing themselves.....let me step forward!

I'm pleased to join the Nikon team! My first submission with my new camera was to the Multiple Light Sources challenge. My previous camera could not achieve the beautiful results I achieved with the Nikon D100 for that submission.

Hey! How about some Nikon team spirit? We can't let the Canonians hog all the attention! Or maybe..... our photos just speak for themselves.

(Thanks mavrik!)

My first entry with the d70 came in 5th. Best I ever got with the Rebel was 10th (although with a higher score). Guess it's a tie.

GO TEAM CAKON! er... GO TEAM NINON!...CANIKONON!...uh... never mind.

Welcome to all new owners. Nikon is perfection. Have used nikon proudcts for years. First were in the lab taking pictures of dividing cells. The optics were just too good to go any other way!!!!

I just got my Nikon D70 yesterday! (doing happy, happy, joy, joy dance!) I had to charge the battery first, it was torture! Unfortunately, I did not get the kit, so I am using my old Nikkor 35-80mm lens on it. I will hopefully be getting a newer lens later.

This waiting fo the battery to charge is hell. Just arrived 30 minutes ago, and I went right for the charger (done this before). Now I am contemplating the waiting challenge.
Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait!

Yeah, that wait for the battery charge is a nightmare. Try rereading the user manual again. :)

Yeah, I bet that Canon 10d was dirt cheap ;)

This was my first entry with the Nikon D100. Not my highest placing entry, but I was extremely pleased with how well the D100 performed in low light (in comparison to the Fuji S602 I was using before....)

Just interested in to why you chose the D100 when you were moving from the 602? I also went 602 to D100, and chose the D100 due to it's layout. I was very similar to the 602, and just felt like a natural progression.

Might sound kind of dumb, but I decided on the Nikon D100 because I couldn't get my hands on the Canon EOS 10d. I'd had my heart set on the 10d even though I'd never held one in my hands (based solely on my Internet research), but nobody had one in stock around here, and my local store was informed by Canon that due to backorders, one wouldn't arrive until the end of June at least. I was in a hurry because the money was burning a hole in my pocket.

Needless to say, I am very happy with my decision. I like the camera very much, and am getting great results with it. The only problem I'm having right now is getting good results with the 3-D matrix metering. I keep blowing out the highlights. Any suggestions on overcoming this?

Good a reason as any ;-)

I don't actually use matrix metering that often. I usually use center weighted and do spot metering and an EV lock near the brightest part of my scene, then recompose. I will use matrix in arenas or areas with relatively flat lighting throughout the scene.

Hope this helps,
-danny

Can you "do spot metering and an EV lock near the brightest part of the scene, then recompose" while using center weighted? I've probably tried this many times, but can't remember if I got the results I wanted.

Center Weighted and Spot for sure, not sure about Matrix. It's all just a guessing game really as to how fast you want the shutter so as to get the right balance of shadow and highlight.

Hi all -

I have an older Coolpix -- not exactly the SLR club, but I'm planning on a D70 when the finances allow!

Anyone have personal experience with both the D70 and D100? I've seen some of the reviews, but I'm interested in the practical experience. Which do you prefer and why?

See the June 22 issue of PC magazine - Article on page 48, "The Digital SLR to Beat" - about .................. The D70!

The last sentence, "Given its stellar price/performance ratio, The Nikon D70 is our clear pick." (5 stars)
