I'm looking for a tripod head that is equivalent to a ball head, but has markings to tell me how far (in degrees or radians or whatever) I've tilted the head. I've found a lot that have markings on the base that tell you how far you've rotated or turned the head on a flat plane, but they don't have anything to indicate how much I've tilted.

Anyone have ideas or recommendations?

I also know there are fancy video fluid heads, but the ones with the markings are in the thousands of dollars. I'm looking to keep it under $500, preferably under $300

It would, but I need to be able to measure the degree of the tilt. I need to be able to tilt it between 1-5 degrees in any direction, and I suppose I could guess or calibrate a bubble measure, but it'd be easier if there was something with markings on it :)

Whoops - hit post too soon. Look at image number 3 on the page - you can build the mount with RRS materials. :)

Hi JP! It's like a mini-reunion :P

The pano heads are very cool, but I need more than two plane movement... Anything like panostuff on a ball head that might have those kind of markings?

Whats RRS?

I suppose I should be more specific. The head would be used more like a microscope stage. I will put a plate or something on it, and then an object on the plate, and I need to be able to adjust the plate angle...
