I recieved this email this morning:

"Dear Justen Eason,

I am writing to you from the position of project assistant regarding a new internet project, which has been launched by photographer and director Adolf Zika, entitled WEEK OF LIFE.

I found your contact on www.dpchallenge.com and I believe that your work could be a great contribution to our project. Please take a moment and visit the website of the project www.weekoflife.com . A project, which is very special indeed. The photo library of humanity of 21st century!

The objective of the project is to show the life of all the people living on the Earth, who have different professions and different lifestyles. Now, you have the chance to show the others how you live. You can take photos of everything and everybody and of course you, but all the time its just you who has the camera.

You, as photographer can play with your photos. You are more concentrated on details and pay more attention to what is around you so I think that the week of your life would be very interesting. You know, by your photos, you can also express all the things that you like or hate. In your life, in your country.
The users will also have a chance to present themselves in the Week of Life print magazine, which will be distributed worldwide.

Adolf Zika, the founder of the project, is an ambassador of Leica; in 2001 at Photokina he was selected among 6 photographers of the world to represent this renowned brand. Today, he is supported by Olympus, Phase One and Profoto.

I believe that after a more careful look you will grasp the significance and impact this project can have, not only for the photographic world.

Hope to hear from you.

Have a nice day,

Nela Jiráňová

Anyone else got something like it? I haven't looked at the links because I have no idea what could be on the other side.

I got that email last week and have just sat on it.
09/29/2009 06:46:17 AM · #3
I haven't got this one yet, But just this week alone I have had 3 offers to transfer 25 million dollars into my bank account all they need is routing numbers and a copy of my ID card. I think I will do it, and the first thing I am going to do is buy those dumb asses a book on the english language so they can learn how to speak and spell.

The email presented here almost sounds legit but now days it is really hard to tell. Might be worth taking a look at the website though and see.

ETA I just did a google on weekoflife. They also have a facebook page. With around 75 fans.

It's probably genuine, as there's no mention of money.

At least the name dropping is legit, it would seem.

Probably the reward you get for being such fine photographers listing your email address on your profile. But then again, this is a very special project....

I just had a quick browse on the weekoflife site. It is a nice site, looks like the xbox live site, they must be using front page. The photo presentation is all in flash so it is harder for people to steal your photos. The way it looks, anyone can join the project. Something to think about.

Yeah, there is no such thing as a theft-safe image if its posted online.

My only take on this is that it could be a way to get you to subscribe to that magazine, but otherwise, it sounds like it could be a jpeg magazine type set up.

I think its just name dropping to get people to think its real. Why would he have a domain registered in the Czech republic and then register weekoflife.com with um...Joker.com.

Since the nameservers are joker.com, I'd think weekoflife.com is hosted there. Dunno, but unsolicited emails offering stuff are best handled with extreme caution.

My guess is they are targeting people with their e-mail address shown in their profiles. Warning! Warning!

Doing such is against DPC rules ... can the OP please report this directly to Langdon via the Help > Contact Us > Administrative Inquiry menu link?

If someone's e-mail is on their profile page, you do not have to have a site registration to see it. Could Langdon really do anything? Maybe make the e-mail field invisible if not logged in?

I don't see how it is against the rules...I practically broadcasted my email to the world by putting it on a website. I have no problem in reporting it, I just don't understand what rule it is violating.

Probably section 4.3 in the 'Registered Users Agreement'.

But was she a DPC member? The rules can't apply to those who aren't DPC members, right?

That puzzled me too, since they're not selling anything. All they're doing is inviting you to have a look at something that you, as a photographer, may be interested in.

I read their TOS, and I can't see anything shady about the site.
