Juliet - When I decided to buy mine, I called up B&H directly and had them walk me through it. The Ewa-Marine kit I bought works perfectly. I ended up going with the unit that has the spot for the hot shoe mounted flash.

Sorry, I don't have a clue. I was thinking of getting one myself, but decided I'll just get an underwater camera.

Hi Juliet,

From the looks of it you need this model//www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/17361-REG/Ewa_Marine_EM_U_AX_U_AX_Underwater_Housing.html . I went on the Ewa Marine site and that was one of the suggested models for the 50D.

Have you considered renting a hard plastic casing? It'll be so much easier to use. ETA:(Look for Ikelite, Watershot, Aquatica, Sea And Sea, etc... here's a handy link with more info //photo.net/learn/underwater/uw2/housings.html) In the end, for my vacation, I just bought one of the new smaller p/s Canon powershots and got a Canon underwater casing for it. This way you can also shoot HD video ;) Ultimately I wanted to find an underwater case for the G10 so I can shoot RAW but it was out of stock. Yeah so the G11 comes along, with the case as an option but no HD video. Oh well.

Have a great time shooting. It's so much fun :)

I forgot to add, you might need some silicon packets to help prevent condensation. I barely fit one of those into the case for the powershot. The ones I got where a bit costly, called the Moisture-Muncher but only those would've fit. Since you got a nice big case any should do. Maybe you can tape a few to the body?

With my scuba mask fogging up and the case fogging up a bit at times I was shooting blind here and there, LOL. If you bring your own mask make sure to treat it was some antifog liquid. I didn't. They say spit works too but not as well it seems.

Haven't read any of the thread, but here's my two cents: Underwater housing is way too expensive and I think the government should provide low cost underwater housing for those of us that can't afford it. Underwater housing is, after all, the American Wet Dream. That is all.

Spongebob Squarepants received a government subsidy for his subaqueous dwelling. Even businesses can get assistance--take, for example, The Krusty Krab restaurant.

Did you get it yet and have you tried it out? I would love to be able to take my 50D underwater.

Yep taken 580 shots, and I think there may be about 3 that can be used.

It is a totally different beast underwater. The main problem I had was the model smiled for 575 shots and didn't realize he was doing it. He thought he wasn't smiling till he saw the shots.

the other problem is the heat in the bag gets too much for the camera especially when you have the flash going too. We had to stop 1/4 way through because of this and open the bag

the other thing is the damn thing floats, so I had to go out and buy wrist weights for it to help me.

Also I needed ankle weights as did the model as we all kept floating.

there are no instructions with the bag, just a diagram and that is a stupid diagram too, so you have to guess how to put it together

another con is not putting sunscreen on your back when shootign fro 2 hours! ouch!

so those are the cons

the pros

it is soooooooooo much fun!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm glad to hear it works. I would like something to use for when I go snorkeling, so this may be a solution.

yes i think it is, i am going to do another one and use the pop up flash and see if that doesn't over heat the bag.

but you have to get weights for the bag or you will never be able to control it, even when you don't inflate it too much, it was a nightmare and hilarious at the same time, i couldn't go under water at all, i had to float on the top and push the bag down
