I'll wait for a rainy day...I'm glad i saw her portfolio for the first time. Some great stuff!
Any tips about the style of light and edition she uses on her portraits?

| I can't wait for this challenge - she was my first inspiration on this site and someone I tried to learn from and emulate from the start |

I know the challenge description has a link to her profile, but I figured it wouldnt hurt to have it in this thread either.

Pedro,
If you'd like I'll switch places with you. I'll take a photo in Brasil, and you take one in Louisiana.
:D

Very interesting: is heida permitted to participate in a challenge dedicated to her own photography style and risk not to be among the winners? |

Didn't something like that happen in the Ansel Adams challenge? Someone uploaded one of his photos and didn't win? |

The secret twist SC haven't told us about yet is that only heida is allowed to vote ;-) i.e. she'll pick the winners.
Actually heida hasn't entered a challenge for over 2 years and only posted to one forum in that time, so I guess she's left us :-(

Here is the link to the DPC thread where Heida kindly gave a step-by-step explanation of her processing style....you will need to scroll down to see it. Unfortunately she seems to have removed her images but her explanation will give you some ideas.

Judi, thanks for that link. Very generous of you! Not that it will make any sense to those of us with minimal post-processing knowledge and Paint Shop Pro software.

From the thread Judi linked, here's a set of processing steps Heida used on a particular image, which is no longer linked. Nevertheless the steps are interesting. This will save a little digging:
Originally posted by heida: First I did some burning on the background then I clicked levels adjustment layer and clicked options there and clicked the top box (enchance monochromatic contrast)
then I used selective color adjustment layer which is btw my favorite adjustment layer :) I decided to put more blue color in the grey areas so in neutrals I took yellow to -7 and in blacks I put black to +2 to make the black blacker
and in reds for the skin tone I put magenta to -6 and black to -1
then I used brightness/contrast adjustment layer and put the brightness to -1 and contrast to +10
And then I did a little extra I used gradient map adjustment layer and put it to b/w and set its opacity at 41% and mode to soft light
then I did sharpen. |
Of particular interest is the "options" box in the levels adjustment, something many of us may not be aware of... Learn something new every day :-)
R.
