Hey, excellent tutorial!!! I am proud to say I finally can do it myself, although I am not sure mine is good. I used a little fancy schmancy editing on mine also to darken up the edges and take care of any spots I found. I have a lighter version, but found by darkening the edges it seemed to give more depth and focus to the center of the ring. Hope you like and again thanks for the tutorial on how to do this!

Matt

P.S. feel free to check out some of my other photos

Excellent shot ... use a bit of Neat Image and you got yourself a real winner. Good job.

Figured out how to use the Neat Image - this is what I came up with.
Hope you like the outcome, unless this is more I can do with this photo?

Matt

Wow! Nice photo, and Neat Image seems to work great! Is there a Mac equivelant to this? Neat Image is only out for PC.

Double wow! I've got to try this myself one day.

I still have questions on how this NeatImage works, and it being legal on here. It just doesn't seem possible to see that big of a difference (in appearance and cleanliness) if it is applied to the whole image. Or does it somehow selectively choose what to "fix."
But maybe I am just a bitter Mac user that hasn't found an alternative that will do this. Besides despeckling the image through each RGB channel. and that doesn't even come close to this. )C:

Thanks for everyone's comments. As far as the Neat Image, this was the first time I have ever used it. If you read up in the thread here, you'll even see me asking what it is - lol. I had to apply the neat image to the different parts of the image one by one, starting with each corner. I kept the center as it is, not wanting to lose the sharpness of the drop itself. I am so happy to have the effect of this photo after the two hours of trial and error it took to get. My advice to those that want to try: "Don't give up!"

You can download a free copy of the Neat Image at www.neatimage.com
As far as the Mac version I am not sure, but if you check out the site, it may have the answer to your questions. Good Luck!

That shot is surreal after neatimage... Amazing photo!

Good question -- would Neatimage be legal for challenges here? It's kinda applied to the whole image, but kinda not.

neat image is allowed as long as it's applied to the whole image...for instance i ran this through neat image applied to the whole image and it came out nearly identical to the one matty has shown

I wanted to set this photo up as a print, but no matter what I do, it still says the ratio is incorrect. I have read the tutorials, but no luck. Any suggestions??? Thanks guys

NeatImage is a good program if not piled on too thickly. I find over "NeatImaged" photos look far too plastic. As if someone is trying to hide something under too much make-up.

I hope you're printing from a higher-resolution file, but for the one posted:

right now it is 807 x 584 pixels, a ratio of 1.38:1

If you increase the border on the left & right by a total of 10 pixels (to 817) you'll have as close as you can get to 1.4:1

Alternatively, you can go back to the unbordered image and trim a few pixels from the left & right (or add back to the top/bottom) to get the desired ratio.

Neat Image

I used the free version for years. I finally bought it a couple of weeks ago. I like it, but still haven't goofed with the settings. I always just let it make its own profile, and I've been happy with what it does.
