Hey everyone! I am taking a trip to Iceland for eight nights in late August. Does anyone have any tips or recommendations on great places to go/photograph? We're staying a few nights in Reykjavik and then renting a car and possibly staying at farms or camping for 5 nights.

I am pretty amateur as far as photography goes and am hoping to improve my landscape photography with this trip. I was thinking about buying some filters? Maybe a polarizing filter? Any other must haves?

Thanks!

Definitely a polarizer. A cokin Grad ND filter. You'll need the adapter ring and holder as well.

proper mountain shoes and a raincoat! :-D

ok cliches aside, it really depends on what you wanna see in particular and especially HOW you want to ecperience the uncountable "must-sees" in iceland (i.e. hiking, snow scooter tour, canyoning vs. off-the road "attractions" by foot). you say you only have a few days with the car? I suggest you check out the south coast then, plenty of awesome glaciers, waterfalls, endless stone fields and cliffs and it's possible to do in just 2 days.

There are some waterfalls that are very popular.

Skógarfoss
Svartifoss
Gullfoss

And there is Dettifoss, the most, uhh, powerfullest, waterfall in Europe.

You can view map of intresting places in Iceland here: //flashmap2.nams.is/
Here is a translation for the map:

Eyjar = Islands
Mountains = Fjöll
(Not sure about the translation) Lake = Vötn
Glacier = Jöklar
Waterfalls = Fossar
Densely populated area = Þéttbýli
Rivers = Ár
National parks = Þjóðgarðar

I recommend to browse through flickr and check names on the website.

Hope it helps you something...

Here's a link to some of my photos from Iceland. Might give you ideas for where to go what to see.
