Well it's close to that time and I'm posting the most recent photo of me and if I'm brave enough I'll take one the shows me better but for now this one taken at a GTG in Ottawa on the 17th of this month will have to do. Thank you Ray for letting me have this one (I think)

FYI, starting yesterday I went back on the online Weightwatchers for men (same handle = citymars). I lost almost 50 pounds using that website five years ago. Now I want/need to lose 15-20 lbs (7-9 kgs). I've needed to do this for a long while but frankly have lacked the motivation until yesterday I just sort of snapped into it.

Anyway, good luck with your endeavors and I'm sure you all wish me good luck with mine, too!

Hey Larry, are you sure you don't want to quit the cigar as well :) I used to love smoking cigar, as a matter of fact, I still have one Avanti Limited edition cigar :) one came with a very fancy hand craft wooden box, I am still keeping it as a souvenir though, took a memorial shot of it in the last entry :)
Thanks for the weight watcher tip.
All the best,

Max, thats not bad at all, you kind of gave me a nightmarish impression. Well I am the closest one to your weight objective. I am sure we are going to have fun with this side challenge.

I will be taking monthly pictures through the challenge, and I`ll keep the nightmarish `` waring shorts `` pictures till the end :)

The third and last post for tonight .. waww .. I thought you guys forgot about this thread, but it seems you are losing sleep over it, I found few new posts after midnight :)

jettyimages Take a deep breath, relax, you will do it :) I am fully confident. Now I am going through my 3rd week, things are much much easier, all the suffering I`v been through started to fade and kind of looks like a distant memory. If I didn`t have the quitting smoking blog in here I would`t even remember how terrible it was. It is easy don`t worry. Just do it :)

nickp37 2 packs a day, man this is a death sentence for sure. Honestly, I am super happy that you are joining, and I am sure you can do it as well. Btw, having a time off is a double edge weapon, if you didn`t keep your self busy, you will have lots of free time to think about smokes, it is tough, having lots of sleep is a wonderful plan, less food and less thinking about it, if I may add .. lots and lots of water drinking, and breatheeeeeeee ..
All the best,

One last thing.
Guys would you mind brain storm or share what will be your methods of weigh loss?
What kind of diet are you planning on? what kind of work out? weightwatchers? fit for life?
Any help and suggestions is more than appreciated. all the best.

Ladies and Gents, the chart is updated, please take a look at it and let me know if there is any changes to be done. Kindly not '' Days without smoke '' is calculated from the 1st of June. We are a total of 11 Champion now .. and hopefully by the 31st we'll be close to 15 if not more :)

Comon guys, whoever wants to lose weight and quite smoking can give it a go here. You will have the encouragement of another 11 tortured soul :) people cheering for you from all over the world. You will look in front of your beloved once that you had the courage to do it by your self '' unless they know about DPC ''. Last but not least, you will enjoy the team work. I always loved team work, it gives you the ability to blame others :) .. and no one will notice if you screwed up :)

I see you have Max quitting smoking as of June 1, but I believe he has never smoked. He is in this side challenge to lose weight.

It's really hard to work at loosing weight when I'm on set with our son while he's filming because I always have to be where I/he can see me, but I guess he'll just have to come with dad

for walks after shooting instead of relaxing in the hotel :) I'll spring that on him once we're finished filming on Sunday, I'm sure/hope he'll be fine with it and if he's not then it

won't be the first time he's had to something that he doesn't want to do.

MAX!

ETA:

I just talked to Isaac and told him what we were up as a group and he said he'd be thrilled to help keep dear old Dad around longer and hit the trail with me every chance we get during filming.

I decided to talk to him instead of springing it on him so I wouldn't upset his routine at the last minute, feeling guilty I guess :)

MAX!

Its getting close........scary stuff. But in a way its been good having this long lead up to it, I've told my friends here that i'm doing it on Monday, so there really can't be any going back on the deal. They're all really supportive, no-one I know smokes, which is good. And I'm enjoying them less and less as the days get closer, I'm almost forcing myself to smoke now in order to prove to myself how horrible they are, how much my lungs hurt, how crappy I feel. So by monday I'm hoping it will be a relief not to have to cross examine myself all the time, and to stop worrying about getting sick.
Do you realise though that by the time you guys wake up on Monday morning I will have already gone one day on my lonesome without smoking? Doesn't anyone on this side of the planet want to give up too, or am I just the last one to wisen up? lol

Ok, count me in for quitting smoking. I've been smoking for 20 yrs now, I have kids and I wake up in the morning coughing up half a lung every morning. I'm tired of it. I need to stop. I need to be around for my kids. My goal is to be smoke free on July 25th, my wifes birthday. I know its going to be hard, I've tried many times before. I will continually cut down and post how I'm doing.

Trish, I know what you mean about being scared. I tried to quit many times, but I think its the really WANTING to be smokefree that turned the tide this time. Not only was I always feeling less than good, but I was paying so much money to make myself sick. I am cheering you on from across the world. I have faith in you!

Chris, Having a quit date picked out was very important to my success thus far. It allowed me to focus on the goal and to have time to really express how much I wanted to succeed. I applaud your determination!

I am nervous as well, mainly because I'm afraid how much I'm gonna want to go buy some cigs on monday. I will have to keep up my will power and do everything I can to keep myself out of the store. Tommorow I will be smoking as little as possible to ease the amount of nicotine in my system. I'm hoping that will help me cope on monday when I completely quit for good. I have the gum and sunflower seeds ready to go on monday.

Scary scary scary, the time is drawing very near for this side of the world. But I've told everyone in my family and my friends now, so there's no going back unless I want to look like a complete loser and disappoint my children yet again.

Lol, if you ever come to Australia NEVER say that you are pulling for someone, lol. But thank you Peter, I really appreciate your support. I think thats whats going to make all the difference this time, its being able to do it together, and to be able to come here and vent our fears, frustrations and most importantly, successes, knowing that people care!

Already have 12 champion in the house :)

Guys which one do you like more, the more or less detail charts above?
I kidn of like the details, due to my nature as a data analyst, but it is really small when you put it in here, if any one have some ideas, I am all ears.
Cheers,

Well as I'm the first cab off the rank, it might be slightly helpful to anyone giving up/starting off in the morning if I write something for you to wake to.

I woke at 6am, and 10 minutes later remembered what I'd promised to myself, then had that familiar old panic "am I going to make this, am I really not going to smoke, or am I too gutless to go through with it?". But instead of letting those thoughts go any further, I got in the shower, wacked a patch on my arm, and took the dog for a 1 hour walk. I was completely breathless before I even started the walk, but you know, even after NOT having that customary smoke immediately after the walk (stupid I know), I feel better. I can feel a little bit of dizziness, but I think the patch seems to be taking the edge off it. I then enjoyed a coffee with no smoke, and it was really nice, I can still taste it!
Coming home was weird, but I figure there is going to be a first time for many smoke free situations that will be difficult, but then once I've done those things smoke free I can release myself from the triggers. Theoretically.

So, good luck to you all, when you wake up you will be starting a new journey and looking forward to feeling better every step of the way. If I can feel better after not having just one smoke after a walk, and if I, the coward of the century, lol, can get through to this point where I've actually taken myself up on the commitment, so can you! One step at a time. Good luck!

Yay Trish, I am so proud of you. Just take it one moment at a time for the first few days and you will be well on your way!

I am not sure about your patches, the ones I used in the beginning gave me wonderful dreams.

Thanks Barbara :-) - the dreams sound fun, but I chose the 16 hour patches so I'm clean overnight, I doubt it will give me too many dreams. The only thing is that the patch kind of burns my arm, don't know why, but its not a major problem.
How long has it been for you now since you gave up?

jettyimages: Congratulation for starting your first day :) you started it wonderfully, a nice one hour walk, and a positive attitude. Your objective for today needs to be .. finishing the first day without a smoke :) one step at the time .. one day at the time and you will do it .. I am sure you will :)

Btw, one important thing if you are used to smoking in your house or in your car. You'll need to have a smell termination campaign :) I have a house office, which I used two cans of Air Fresheners, there are few that specially made to mask and kill the cigarettes smell, for few days I could still smell them .. but after that the smell is totally gone. The car took two weeks to give it stinking smell, but eventually it did. It used to give me a nervous breakdown whenever I smelled the smoke in it. Just thought to give you some heads up :) Just in case ..

Water .. Breatheeeeeeeeeeee .. I am proud of you :)

BAMartin: I remember those dreams from my previous attempt :)
