Anything that would consider most of its revenue gained by being attractive to tourists, usually consisting of some form of entertainment (Theme Parks, Movie Houses, Themed Restaurants, etc), but can also be commercial (Fruit Stands, Malls, Retail avenues, etc.), or a combination of both. Also included would be major landmarks that would draw people in from elsewhere to see.

Some examples would be:

Any Six Flags Theme Park

The Mall of America - Minnesota

Stephen Avenue - Calgary

CN Tower - Toronto

Sarcasm aside, if we go by that definition, it's a Free Study! YAY! (That is, if it was actually a challenge, which it's not.)

err - i'm gonna get myself in trouble....

disclaimer - i have nothing against any race - or ethnicity. i'm merely mocking a stereotype in our United ( failing ) States of America.

someday I'mgoing to figure it out and someday I'm going to be great ............lol.............we all gotta dream

Take a look at the postcard challenge. Tourists go to tourist attractions and then buy postcards to show them to the folks back home.

Places that are designed and/or promoted to attract tourists to the area and, to a lesser degree, to keep them there and spending once they arrive.

Think about it. When you think of the world's big cities what are the first things that spring to mind for that city? Paris is famous for the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the Palais de Versailles, London has Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, the London Eye, Sydney, the Harbour Bridge and Opera House.

Mention the Taj Majhal, Niagara Falls, Mount Rushmore, and most people can immediately picture them, even if they're not sure exactly where they are.

Some were built with the express purpose of attracting tourism, some had/have other purposes but are promoted to tourists as good reasons to visit. Then once you have them in your city you offer many lesser attractions to encourage them to extend their stay. In Victoria, this one of our most promoted landmarks;

the Legslative Buildings

Pretty much any literature you see on Victoria will include at least one shot of it and of the Empress Hotel, Beacon Hill Park and Butchart Gardens. But the town is full of other ways to spend your tourist bucks, from whale watching to the Bug Zoo, Miniature World and the Undersea Gardens. The commercial ventures almost exclusively target tourists rather than locals.

Hmm... I guess a tourist attraction is really nothing more than smart marketing!

eta: I just figured it out. A tourist attraction is something that someone has convinced you is worth travelling thousands of miles and spending thousands of dollars to see. :)

usually yes.

For example, see this link

//travel.yahoo.com/p-interests-25565465;_ylc=X3oDMTFyOGFqZ2VzBF9TAzI3MTYxNDkEX3MDMjcxOTQ4MQRzZWMDZnAtdG9kYXltb2QEc2xrAzIwYmVzdHZpZXdzLTAzLTE2

The 19th number (udaipur) the view mentioned in this link, i live 5 minutes walk from there.

This particular view is very famous and is there on many tourism related books about india.

We have one more lake very near to the lake mentioned here. Having lived there almost all my life i could say that the view of other lake (not mentioned here) is 10 times better than this. But this is what gets to be marketed. So this is tourist attraction.
For me the other lake is more beautiful so i love to spend time there rather than here.

Any Natural wonders of the world.
Any Un-natural, manmade Oddities and Unusual things, or even events.

The key, is that they attract people who aren't from the area.
They will travel to see and probably pay moeny to see it.

Why do you ask???
