Hello everyone,
I stumbled accross this site the other day while trying to make up my mind on a new camera and a couple of lens. I have been amazed at some of the photographs that I have seen on here. There are quite a few people with some real talent for sure. Well my wife and I went with the Canon 40d and we had gotten the 28-135mm, Tamron 28-80, and the Tamron 70-300 to start with. Hopefully, I will like the photos the two tamron's produce. Once I figure out how to post photo's here I would love all of your opinions if you wouldn't mind.

Thanks for a great site!

Here are just a few that I took today trying to get use to the camera and learn it basically. I tried to just pick a few that I thought were good. Memory cards are great, I think the count was over 300 photos at the end of the day.
If you have any type of opinion or thoughts on how to make the photos better plz let me know. Thanks for looking.

Hi Joe, well the photos posted so far look good. You have a nice setup there - what kinda of previous experience do you have of photography? Regrdless, you'll learn loads here if you stick with it (and dont let any negative comments get you down, you'll get them eventually, but you'll find they will help you improve).

Good luck!

Welcome Joe, DPC has a lot to offer, and the challenges can be frustrating some times, but all together they will provide so much growth you will be amazed. I'm just Linda - not one of the top photogs here, and usually pretty much the faded flower in the threads. All the same feel free to ask me any questions and I'll do my best to help you.

Hi Joe, and welcome! It didn't take you long to make up your mind to be a member, which is a good thing. It's great to have you around already.
You asked about posting a thumbnail.
First put the image you want to upload in a file in your computer. Make it no larger than 720 pix longest dimension, and jpg, medium compression, filesize, 150 kb or so. To put the image in your portfolio. Click "My Portfolio" or "Workshop" under "My Home" at the top of the page. The directions to upload are there.
After you have it in your portfolio or workshop, you can click on the thumb there. The url at the top of your browser will have a 6 digit image number at the end.
When you open the "Post Reply" window in a thread, you can then use the next to last icon at the top of the box to post the thumb. A box will open, and you enter the 6 digit number in the box. Click the "Preview" button at the bottom of the box to see what it will look like. Then you close the preview window, and click "Post" at the bottom of the "Post Reply" window.
From the portfolio page, it you want to see the image as it will appear when opened, click the "View Page" thing on the left side of that window. Another way to see them full size is to open your profile page, and click "View Photographers Portfolio" .
Enjoy your time here. Watch out for that darn update button.

Run! Quick, while you still can!

Either that, or you have 8.5 hours to take a postcard shot and enter it into the challenge that starts at midnight. It's great fun to jump in with both feet! I found that was the best way. If you take something quick, and enter it even quicker, you don't have much time to get too attached to it. My first entry was fun and only slightly irritating when the lower votes came through (and great fun when the higher ones did!). The next challenge I spent all week thinking, setting up, processing, and it was incredibly painful to watch the voting process!
