Urban exploration (often shortened as urbex or UE) is the examination of the normally unseen or off-limits parts of urban areas or industrial facilities.[1] Urban exploration is also commonly referred to as infiltration, although some people consider infiltration to be more closely associated with the exploration of active or inhabited sites. It may also be referred to as "draining" (when exploring drains) "urban spelunking", "urban caving", or "building hacking".

The nature of this activity presents various risks, including both physical danger and the possibility of arrest and punishment. Many, but not all, of the activities associated with Urban Exploration could be considered trespassing or other violations of local or regional laws.

I recently visited a local Iron Works that closed down in 2002. This is my first set fom that shoot.

Great set of images and nice toning to go with the old time feel. Where is that factory?

UE has become one of my biggest hobbies in the recent years. It's a thrill, time travel and a nice way to spend time with yourself and the ghosts of the abandoned place. Thatswhy i usually explore on my own.
Here's gallery for abandoned places if you wanna check it out.

Next week i gonna explore some places south of Berlin with a friend of mine by bike, because they're difficult to reach otherwise. There are abandoned military barracks including an airfield and bunkers, a military hospital and maybe we even gonna check out the abandoned olympic village of 1936...It ought to be interesting...

Wish I could go! But I haven't been on my bike for months... Still, I'm envious! Have fun, be careful, and I look forward to the pics!

This place is based in South Wales in the UK.

My ultimate trip would be Pripyat in the Ukraine, the villiage that was evacuated 2 days after the chernobyl disaster and no human has ever lived there in 20+ years. There are people that work in the area but they have to work 2 weeks on 2 weeks off even though the radiation have dropped to relatively safe levels. The place is the only place on the planet where humans more of less disappeared overnight and it was left there for nature to take its toll.

it wasn't easy finding information about a trip to the reactor. i started with this site that has some useful info about the town and its history but no links to tour groups.
then i called to some guy from another site but they only spoke russian so they couldn't help me either.
on the way to kiev i met two girls who had a special tourist guide for ukraine which finally had some better info with travel agencies who organize trips to the zone. i contacted them like 1 week ahead and one of the agencies had a few spots left on the next tour (they only do tours every one or two weeks). it cost 675hry (around 95€ at that time) including the bus tranfer from kiev and a lunch at a nearby "hotel".
here's a link to the agency. they also organize individual tours with a maximum number of 6 persons so you can decide where you want to go and for how long. it costs 600usd but is devided by the number of people.
if you don't want to book a tour you can probably visit the abandoned villages around the reactor but they won't let you go to pripjat or chernobyl without an official permission.
