Many of you might know that today would have been my daughters 25th Birthday. Since her death just over 2 years ago myself and Natalya Talj have been involved in various fundraising activities.

This year we have decided to publish a photographic coffee table book and any profit from sales will be given to charity and this is where we would like to enlist the help of as many dpc'ers as possible.

In a nutshell we want people to go out during the month of March and take a photograph that might depict 'hope' in some way (I've seen peoples ideas of challenge titles so am expecting some shoehorned shots).

Langdon has agreed to allow the book to carry the dpc logo and we are discussing others ways DPC might help us. The book should be on sale from 1st November 2009.

If you'd like more info then either post away here or visit 'The Book' to read more about the how and why we are doing this. Please note the site talks about High Grade Brain Tumours so may upset some visitors. You can sign up either by pm from here to Talj or myself or via the contact us form on the website.

What will it cost you? well, the only thing I can think of is the time it takes you to go out and shoot the image and of course donating the image rather than selling it, the copyright remains with the photographer and we would just ask for permission to possibly use it in the book and/or on any publicity media we may use (a more detailed notice will be written prior to requesting any image).

Regarding a provisional list of people interested in purchasing the book - we will be creating a page on our fundraising website shortly for people to add their names if they would like to purchase a copy, this won't mean you have to buy it when it's released but it will just be a way of us getting an idea how many people are interested if that makes sense?

Again, sorry we haven't posted more details here yet, we need get together and go through the details and we just haven't had chance yet! We'll post here and update the opening post as soon as we do though!

***updated 13th April***

If you are participating in our Book of Hope please can you send an email to
fundraising@rosemcgill.co.uk no later than May 1st 2009 with your
photograph and the following information:

Image Requirements:

1. Largest Possible image size.

2. TIFF (16 bit) Format Preferable - if this isn't possible then JPEG
format.

3. Images can be landscape or portrait orientation.

4. If you'd like your shot to have a specific border please send us
the TIFF file WITHOUT the border and the small JPEG version with the border.
Our designers will then get back to us and let us know if the border works
with the book layout or not.

Information required:

1. Photographers Name

2. Location - This can be the location the image was taken or where
the photographer is from.

3. Image title

4. Quote - if you have a specific quote you would like to be used
alongside your image please include this in your email.

5. We'd like to know why you chose your subject, where you got your
inspiration, what your idea of hope is and any information you feel is
relevant to the image you have taken.

6. Your email address - we may need to contact you during the editing
process and would appreciate you letting us know the best email address for
getting in touch with you.

Note: The fundraising@rosemcgill.co.uk email address is monitored by Natalya
( Talj) and she will get in touch with you to let you know we have received
your image and information as soon as she can.

Other useful information:

Once the title of the book has been decided we will be sending
everyone a Photo Permission Form which needs to be completed and returned as
soon as possible to fundraising@rosemcgill.co.uk

Should we (RoseBuddies and our designers) feel any adjustment to
your image is required we will contact you to discuss this before making any
changes.

Where will the money from this project be going? - All profit from
the sale of the book will go to Rose's Tribute Fund. We hope to have further
details on exactly how this will then be used before the book is launched.

Number of copies:

If you think you might like a copy or two of the book when it is ready,
please could you email fundraising@rosemcgill.co.uk with your name and a
rough estimate of the number of books you'd like. This is just to give us a
(very) rough idea of how many books to order in the first 'run'.

Some people are having issues sending LARGE TIF files. If you have problems please try natalya@thejaggers.plus.com

Andi, how wonderful. I think of you and Rose often, and it humbles me to see all you and Talj have done to try to help others.

Hey Judi, that will be fine :o) The only reason we suggested March is because that is brain tumour awareness month but if you have an image already we'd be more than happy to include it! If you want to email it to fundraising@rosemcgill.co.uk when you're ready that would be great :o)

Despite my sporadic attempts at stock photography, I don't seem to do so well at taking topical photos on assignment. However, when I read your post, this old image of mine is what I thought of first ... you are welcome to use it if you think it suitable -- I will look for the high(er)-resolution file.

Count on me too. This would be my first side challenge, and I am very proud that it is going to be used on this cause.

I'd be happy to help with this - sounds like a great project for a great cause!

Well, I never expected so much interest so quickly! Thank-you everybody, both for offering help and the many pm's I've received, yes, its a sad day for me but all the good thoughts and actions do help make me think some good has come from this.

I'm pretty sure we will be able to bring this idea to print, it wouldn't be possible without the kindness of my fellow dpc'ers so thank-you one and all.

I will try to take something worthy, Andi.

I hold out no 'hope' of getting something worthy, but just the taking part I hope will offer my support.
01/26/2009 06:25:37 PM · #22
Andi, I will do my best to get something as well. A beautiful idea and a fitting tribute.

Having lost a dear friend, and my best friend's father, and a high school classmate to brain tumors, I, too, will try to get something.
01/26/2009 06:29:30 PM · #24
This sounds like a wonderful project to not only help others with this diagnosis, but also to carry on Rose's memory. A beautiful tribute.

Please count me in, I'll do my best.
