What a great idea Neil  nshapiro. I think I have more crap than mediocre images in my whole portfolio and it sounds like an excellent way to clear them out and learn a whole heap along the way.......be prepared there's some shockers. Who knows I might just end up with a blank hard drive. Love to join in here. |

hey neil nshapiro .. its a brilliant idea ..
and i'm like you, rarely a day goes by when i dont take a photograph or 100 .!!!. some of them i delete straight away and some of them i think hmmmmmm .. 'if i did this or that it might turn out ok' .. then i take more and the ones i thought i might do something with can end up being forgotten ..
i have a 250gb external hard drive which is for my photogaphs only .. unprocessed .. i've used up 70gb since 14th march 07 .. just jpegs coz i've got rid of all the raw files .. my photographs taken before that date which go from 2005 are on another ext hard drive & take up 77gb on that drive .
the other day i bought a 1.5tb external drive for my working files .. the one i'm using now is a 500gb and i've used up 250gb of that one since joining dpc 2 years ago .. i have another external which has all my designs and stuff from before dpc ..
lucky this side challenge goes for a year is all i can say ..
oh .. yeah nearly forgot to say .. I'D LIKE TO JOIN UP .. !!..:)
it will give me the motivation i need to finally go thru those pics and delete delete delete delete all the crap ..
and work on some that have potential .. :)

I really like this idea. It lets me justify to my girlfriend why I have saved every photo of the last 5 years, and why I constantly need to buy harddrives to store them.
Can I be included? |

I updated the list. If I left you off (perhaps you left a comment and I wasn't sure you wanted to actually join), or I just made a mistake. If so, I'm sorry--just let me know and I'll fix it.
FWIW, I think the only restrictions would be
1) One a week
2) Photos not eligible for any current challenge (best of 2008 excluded)
Think of it as a thread to give us more incentive to go back and work on things DPC doesn't usually motivate us to work on, since they are not challenge elligible. And to get feedback on those "non-entries!".

I'm thinking over this, because I have a ton of photos I haven't even looked at - especially from my vacation in Europe this summer, where I took over 12,000 pictures.
The problem is that I'm not sure I'll be able to submit one every week. My schedule is very full most of the time, but I probably can dedicate a few hours to this on the weekends, but sometimes (actually a lot), my schedule changes drammatically and sporadically, and I end up with no time for doing such things.
Is it possible to "half-join" or something, so that I can participate but maybe don't have to submit every week?
Thank you so much, this is such a great idea!

We're reaching a critical mass where it will be difficult to comment on everyone's photos, but I'll expand the limit to 35.
Let's hold it there for at least a few weeks--if people feel we can handle more, then we'll open it up again.
