Shameless plug, and looking for feedback. I finally started working on my web site and roughed out the photo gallery over the weekend. In the process, I had to revisit many of my old entries since there's no reason to restrict my own site to 640px or Basic editing. Some of the titles are also different since I don't need to shoehor... uh, appeal to a particular topic. The difference on many is very noticeable. Take a look and let me know whatcha' think!

It looks fantastic; particularly the portrait section, which I am enjoying a lot! Thanks for sharing.

When I click on the different gallery names it doesn't go anywhere. I am using IE.

Click the photo itself. I still have to work out a way to trigger that action from the text without having to code the whole slideshow twice. :-/

Love the layout, it's clean and stylish. Only one small point - I instinctively want to click on the text for "Concepts", "Portraits" to enter the gallery rather than on the image (clicking on the text does nothing in Firefox and Opera - don't know about IE).

Images are simply brilliant. Clarity is astonishing.

Damn I'm jealous now :-)

Miles

[Edit - Karen types faster than me]

Nice site. :) I have the same problem as Karen and I did click on the photo. But that is the only one it lets me see.

Maybe the easiest solution would be to forget linking the photo and just launch everything from the text button.
11/17/2008 11:12:49 AM · #8
I think that would be the more "intuitive" option.

Great Site and photos, have to agree on the buttons though, until I read in here to click the image I figured the site wasn't complete...

You set the bar pretty high. Not that any of us are surprised

Now why didn't I do it that way to begin with? My first layout had the text and captions together as buttons, so you'd click on the photos to launch the slides, and I guess I forgot to step back and rethink it when I rearranged everything. Bah, I plead insanity, not that anyone should be surprised...

Some of my portraits rightfully belong in Wildlife, too. ;-P

ROFL! The site looks fantastic, though I admit to having a hard time at first figuring out how to navigate.

Your site is as clean and professional as your photography.

Very nice work, scalvert

Hey! Where is your website?

Hey can't make one 'cause Disney would sue him for trademark infringement over Doc and Sneezy.

Beautiful (except for what everyone's already mentioned), but I'm having one little problem (well, besides envy, and that's to be expected ;) ). I'm hanging on the loading of the wildlife shot after the otter, number 8 I think, and there's no other way than slideshow to get to the rest of that gallery I haven't seen :(

eta; in IE. In firefox it's fine.

curious what you used for the light box. guessing you bought a template ?

looks pretty good overall.

Somebody else said she got stuck on #8 in Wildlife, too. That's really weird. They're all plain old JPEGs, formatted and uploaded the same way. I'll have to check it out when I get home. Bear in mind that I'm fairly new at this and figuring it out as I go. I just started using the software in September and only recently finished a web site for my boss (most of those photos are also mine, naturally).

I used Slimbox for that. The other site I made for my office (previous post) was all manual.

lots of javascript - no doubt.

doesn't look too easy to update the images. at least not on the fly. might be something to consider. also the lock on the image mentioned might be a bad URL in the reference to the image - som browsers are less finicky when it comes to a missing " ' " and what not.
