Okay.....this is a no-whining, glad to be here thread.

I've been kinda bummed at by what seems to be a real downward trend in the positve energy flow.

If you want to gripe about something, PLEASE find the appropritae thread/forum/site, this thread is NOT it.

I would also like tyo request (not demand) that when you list what you love, you tell us why.

So.....

The tutorials.

Why I love them? 'Cause they're written by us, as we discover them, and the person writing them is generally doing it as a way to pass along some gift he/she got from someone else.....that REALLY works and will save you time and grief.

I recently cracked a 7+ score for the first time in the almost two and a half years that I've been here, and I feel it's because I was able to process an image the way that I wanted to from a tutorial.....this one HERE.

I feel that it would have cost me a bunch more than my $25 DPC membership to have had a private PS lesson to be able to impart this knowledge.

So, that's my start for the thread and I hope there are more people who feel enough positive energy for this terrific site to join on in with their appreciation. I certainly have many more things that I'll use to bump the thread.

The Get-Togethers. I had a whale of a time at the Spring get-together in London - had a fantastic time sight-seeing with Talj and Melethia, learnt a bunch from Simms and shamelessly borrowed Gloda's models, including DaisyBoots. Hugely looking forward to a trip to Rome with Melethia next week, and to another English get-together (Liverpool, was it Talj?) early next year.

The members (yeap! all of them);) they are my friends, mentors and inspiration!!

Got to second that. I've met DPCers in Chicago, Wisconsin and twice in London and will also get together with Talj, SaraR and hopefully a few others in the spring.

ditto on the members....
I consider all my friends.

I get sooooo much help from 'my friends'. It took my 'interest' to new levels of passion...that everything I see now I think about a photo. (I only wish I could get what I 'see' into a fabulous photo...but with my friends help, it will happen!

He-he. I started a Happy DPC thread around three years ago with the following post.

There was a thread started earlier (not by me) that attempted to say something positive about DPChallenge...it diverted.

So - Let's post some happy thoughts about DPChallenge here. Anything goes! ;^)

This is my 100th thread started - cool if you're into counting I guess.
Hit the 100 mark in challenges entered recently - kinda cool too. ;^)

A couple of images I wouldn't have thought to try (post-processing) prior to joining here...

Thanks DPC! Smile and keep having fun! ;^)

Part of my thought then still remains true today...trying things I wouldn't have thought of without the presence of DPC. My favorite thing about this place is keeping the creative juices working trying to find an image for a challenge in the short period of one week.

These guys are the reason I log on to DPC.

I like all the bickering, whining, complaining, and watching folks get themselves all worked up over nothing that means a hill of beans in the big thing we call life. Its better then a soap opera!

On the other hand I also like most of the members and their generosity to help out their fellow human beings.

I'm pretty new to the site, but I just love the challenges in general. I'm a college student and dont have much time for hobbies, so I have really enjoyed having a little something to do in my spare time.

The bitching in 'rant'. Oh, and I love hearing people whining about their low scores.

Someone is always ready to help or answer a question, any time of the day or night.

And the occasional kerfuffle is entertaining.
11/13/2008 02:00:50 PM · #13
for me, it's people like Jeb! always there to help bring the morale up when it starts to go downhill! You rock, Jeb!

Kerfuffles! They're delicious! Oh. Wait. That would be truffles.

I love the people I've met, both virtually and then in "real life", starting with SandyP and PhantomEWO in San Antonio, then the folks in Austin, the workshop in Münster (what a cast of characters!), and the get-together in London/York/Cambridge. I love that this place, while it royally bums me out at times, has kept me interested in my hobby and kept me trying to improve. And it keeps me shooting, even when I'm not so pleased with the outcome.

I love unusual and different pictures, and the brave folks who enter them in challenges. I love the good folks in Team Suck. I love the side challenges and experiments. I love that people support and help out folks like Sherpet, SDW, hotpasta, Bear_Music and many others when they needed a bit of a helping hand.

But mostly? I love the pictures. :-)

I, love, my big sister

But I don't want to wear her coat.

Oh wait, that's something else.

What do I love about DPC? I love the ease of use, the openness, and the fact that it's such a fantastic time waster. I also love my Free Study Comments Experiments. Nowhere else do I get the chance to be creative, silly, fun and completely nucking futs with very little negative reaction to it :D

Deb reminded me... Through the pictures, I've visited virtually every corner of the world. Most of which I'll never visit in person. For that I am grateful.

And also places I have visited many years before that I probably wont see again. It helps bring back all those memories.

haha i love the sense of humour of some of the folks here!

and meeting them in REAL life is even cooler, like deb said. been on 2 (official) gtg's so far and they were both a blast (both in terms of photography and having a good time all around) and also the inoffical ones in iceland, serbia, poland and other weird places i probably wouldn't have seen if it wasn't for dpc...;)

I like the photographs.

I like the forums where people complain about getting 1's, 2's & 3's & telling them I vote 1 for first place, 2 for second, 3 for third & 10 for the real dogs.

I like the forums where some bright spark opens that favourite can of worms; Canon or Nikon which as everyone knows it's Canon unless you own a Nikon D3

But mostly I just like the photographs & the creativity that goes into them.

I've learned a great deal about photography through DPC, but that's my obvious reason for loving it here.

Photography aside, I seriously appreciate the way people rant here on DPC. Most online communities are not capable of carrying on the sort of controversial debate that happens here without immediately devolving into flame wars. We have some tough discussions that occasionally get a little rough, but typically there is thoughtfulness and civility in our rant forums and, ultimately, we can all at least agree to enjoy some good photos.
