Just to get the ball rolling:

1) What's a portrait?
2) What's a studio?

So the shot has to be indoors in a studio/makeshift studio and I can't take a shot outdoors....?

You can take it outdoors - but you will probably want it to look like it was taken in a studio. I would assume that any outdoor scenery other than what might be printed on a muslin will be ripped for dnmc.

That's a bugger, skin tones look really good outside with my camera, indoors not so much.

My shots for color in b&w look BRILLIANT in color...dangit. On the other hand, I had a shoot lined up for 8PM last night that didn't go through because I can't get into my university's photo studio on my own (my ID isn't coded correctly...I should be dealing with that right now, in fact. Bleh) so YAY!

Studio portrait probably means a portrait with minimal interaction with the background. Outdoor shots? No. Environmental portraits indoors? Probably not.

This is purely a take on traditional portraiture utilizing your model and lighting as best as you can. Now "traditional" doesn't have to mean not creative, but of the Top 10 for each of the last two challenges we saw at least 95% with no interaction with the BG. (10th place in CSP II was the closest).

I think it will be easier to buy a pair of pajamas (pyjamas) than to build a studio.
:-)

I have several pairs of pretty snazzy jammies, just no ideas!

I'll be shooting my color studio portrait outdoors without a studio, without lights other than what's there, and without a model. It'll be a candid.

Is that too much information before the challenge? :-)

Okay, so what makes it a "Studio Shot", other then being shot in a studio??

Is it the fake background on abtract-patterned muslin or solid colored paper?
Does it have to be indoors to qualify?
Anything be faked.

I want to know why all of the portrait challenges have been Basic Editing for the last 6 months or so. Why does Langdon taunt me so?

I'd have been over the moon if this challenge had been advanced editing. Just about to take a few practice shots.

Pfft, advanced editing, who needs it? Certainly not me ;)

But honestly, whenever I try to spot edit things, the original always ends up looking better. Always. Maybe I just need photoshop lessons...

Maybe so, because most people's skin can benefit from a little spot editing here and there. As opposed to say Abstract Emotion, which no one knows what the hell it is much less worries about spot editing a photograph of it.

I had an idea for an image for that challenge titled "DPC: Anger" but if I smash my camera into a thousand abstract pieces I will have no way of getting the picture into the computer ;)
