Sorry to hear about your camera. : (

Some positives... ; )
Might give you some time to get to the 30,000 commments mark. only 537 to go!!! And you always give the best comments.
Might give you some time with your little Kodak DX6490. And its well with in your scoring range to get a pic on that cameras top photo range..Only 6.4588 - 7.2946!!!

Wish you the best in getting it sorted out fast.
Scott : )

Drat! We'll miss your spectacular flowers while the camera is out of action. Hope an expedient and affordable solution presents itself. Good luck.

oooooooh. ouchie. So sorry that happened! I have done this more than once. (i am quite klutzy).

Maybe you can rent something in the meanwhile...just so you don't end up with photography withdrawals. :)

HOpe you get it back soon.

Sorry to hear about your camera. Upgrade time!!! It's funny what breaks one camera and not another. My friend rolled the 350 I sold him down a flight of stairs off a deck and onto the concrete with a cheap 70-300 lens on it and both are still working fine to this day. Also my wife bounced my cheapo 50mm 1.8 off the concrete from about 2 feet and it still works.
This why I'm glad my stuff is insured. If something happened to it I'm sure I would be shocked at the time but not devistated because I know it will be replaced without any expense to me.

Oh wow.
That's just awful Shez. I would hate to even think of something like that happening. Hopefully you'll be able to get it back soon with the problem resolved.

My first thought was selfish: how can we finish up the august flowers without you. Second thought, the pain, the pain. Third thought, the photographer not the camera. I would so gladly loan you one of my digicams if only you lived next door to prove my point.

So sorry to hear about this--certainly a frustrating and painful thing, and not seeing any work from you for 6-8 weeks is gonna hurt, too.

As the insurance thing has already been mentioned, I can just add my hope that you get great news on that on Monday, and can get your new replacement (and upgraded) camera right away, rather than be forced to wait for repairs.

You might find the Canon G9 a useful P&S option, too. A good backup camera, with enough manual control to "get you by" when without the dslr (or even instead of, when the situation calls for smaller, more portable/stowable options.

I love to be able to do that, but it is not possible, due to my health and medical expenses. I am just at a loss, and feeling quite empty inside. My camera was my everything, and my escape into the real world. I just cling to the hope it can be fixed.

Truthfully, that's how I got a 5D ... my 20D died on me, within 30 minutes I had a 5D in my hands because ... the show must go on!

Thank you everyone, and I will get back to the special people who have sent me personal PM's and emails, but still a little emotional at the moment.

I hope I will be better tomorrow, after talking with my camera people, and our home contents insurer.

I just feel so empty, and this morning when we went for family goodbye 'brunch'. I really missed my camera, and they also missed me having one stuck in there faces. They also know just what that camera means to me.

Ouch! Sorry, Shez.

Maybe drachoo can send you one of his drowned cameras to keep you company while your baby is in the hospital. Good luck with your insurance!

Shez, I am so sorry to hear about your camera. I know how much it means to you (((hugs))).

More hugs to you Shez! I pulled my Fuji S3 off a table with the firewire cord that was plugged into a laptop while I was on vacation in 06. Fortunately it worked for the rest of the trip. I was without it for a month, before I could send it out to be repaired. Using a P&S was just not at all the same after being spoiled. I missed it so much that I went to the local bank and took out a personal loan to buy a second one so that it would not happen again.
I broke two P&S cameras in the last week or so, both have cracked LCD's, and lost an 18-70 zoom lens over a waterfall while on vacation last month. I can feel your pain over this event.
At least no one was physically harmed when it happened. I hope your insurance will cover it, and/or that the repair is simple and inexpensive. If you lived nearby, I would be happy to loan you one of my Fuji S3's until you could get your camera back. I already miss seeing fresh sherpet flowers at DPC.
Love and hugs to ya.

hey shez .. i can see that waddy MelonMusketeer has very kindly offered to lend you his Fuji S3 but you'd have to learn a totally different camera .. i dont know anything about the fuji S3 or how easy it is to use tho .. i upgraded to the 40D recently and so my 400D is now a spare ... i'm very happy to lend you the 400D which would probably be easier than trying to work out the Fuji S3 .. i dont think the 350 and 400 would be much different .. ??
you cant be without your camera for weeks .. if you're anything like me it would be like losing a vital body part ..
let me know wot you want to do .. i can take it to the post office today .. :)xx

Today I rang our insurance company, and I am covered for up to $1,000.00. I will have to pay for the first $50.00, and also for the Canon Quote about $50.0 to %100.00. I am about to take my camera and lens into where I brought my camera, for them to send it away for me.

First option would be, that not much is wrong, and it can be fixed under insurance, with the cost above.

My second option is if the repairs are to costly, or not worth it, they may then suggest a replacement. This would be more difficult for me re expenses, as I like to update if possible.
I will have to wait and see.

Now for all you wonderful people who have offered to help me.

First of all Deb, melethia got in touch with me, and has packed up her spare 'Canon EOS-400D Rebel XTi', and sending it to me to use, until mine is fixed or replaced. I cannot believe someone would do this, and I am truly touched by her generosity.

I have also had a phone call this morning Australia time, from our DPC Roz Roz who is one of my dearest friends here in Australia. We have met many times now, and she and I have a special friendship beyond words. We often sense the need to talk together, and she has also offered me her spare camera.

This was after Debs offer, who contacted me last night. As yet I have not been able to get in touch with Deb again since Roz's offer, to see if she has already sent hers to me. Both Deb and Roz have the same spare camera, can you believe that.

I am really touched by these offers, and found it so hard to say yes, and accept there wonderful offers of help, as I am a very independent person, and hate to borrow things from others.

They say it is a loan to a very special friend in need, and they would not have offered if they did not want to do this.

I am so moved, and so truly blessed.

THANK YOU..... Thank you everyone.

I'm so glad to hear you will have a spare camera to use! I was checking into shipping prices last night from the US to AUS to see if it would be feasible to loan you my spare Canon 300D!!

I hope you get yours repaired or replaced at little cost to you!!

Shez,
sorry to hear about your bad luck i am hopeing it all works out and you get a nice new updated camera. I will miss your photos so i hope it is quick
08/24/2008 11:00:56 PM · #48
Just took my camera in, and yes, they think it will be a replacement for me. I only hope my lens is ok, and that is not damaged, as I love it so so much.

It is still going to take quite a few weeks, just for the quote, and to find out what is wrong. "Canon" does take some time when one deals with repairs and quotes, and if they can fix it, it will then take another 4 to 6 weeks.

Also can anyone suggest which would be the best for me to get, if I do upgrade.

That is to replace my Canon EOS-350D Rebel XT

I think I am sure I will stay with Canon, as I hate new things, always panic a little, and feel much more easier with things I know, or are similar.

Again thank you all for your support.

Good morning Shez! I just got up (and need to get ready for work) - sent you and Roz both a quick email. Mine is ready to go, but if Roz can send hers it'd probably be a lot faster to get across just Australia than across a couple of oceans. :-)

I think an upgrade is best, so maybe it was time and this is your camera's way of telling you. The Rebel XTi would be a great choice for you (and you'll get a chance to try one out with either Roz's or mine!). If you are covered up to $1000, this would cover an XTi just fine for the body only. And since you have lenses, that'd be the ticket!

Let me know if you still need me to post mine. I'll check back here later to be sure.
