Hey all,
I just received a call and an email from a friend of mine that has been nominated for the San Diego Music Awards in the Best Acoustic category!
For anyone that has seen her pictures here, it's my friend Veronica May.
Her CD cover photo & graphics as well as the images in the insert were shots I did for her:

GREAT NEWS!
I have just been nominated for the San Diego Music Awards in the Best Acoustic category.
This calls for brie.
Thank you for all of your support. This is a huge honor (past winners include Jason Mraz and Jewel)!
Now...I have two options:
Option 1. Win
Option 2. Die

Like her music! However, I'm not a fan of such online voting procedures because they often turn into a question of who can mobilize the most friends instead of who makes the best music/photographs/whatever.
(This is what I like about DPC, the anonymous voting. Some will still cheat, but the general concept is better. Of course this kind of anonymous voting is not possible for all arts.) |

In this case, I think that is the idea... in fact, it is probably encouraged... the more people you can get to vote for you, the more support you have, more people to sell to eventually, etc... :) just a thought... |

I understand that. But maybe a competitor has more friends because he works at a bar. This would help him win although his music sucks. ;-) |

All the more reason to vote for Veronica. Most, if not all of us listened to her music before voting and the thread is simply asking to help a fellow DPCer help a friend. You could easily abstain silently. |

Sure, go ahead and vote for her. All her competitors will ask all their friends to vote for them, too...
I just hoped the system was set up in a different way. In a competition of the Canadian TV station CBC for a new hockey anthem this entry was long number one. It's kinda funny (read the comments), but it also shows than online voting procedures do not necessarily select the entry of best quality... |
