It's well outside the challenge week, but I've always liked this picture, and it has a real recipe!

Received a below-average 5.51

My Entry

Other possible entry. Not sure if it would have scored any higher as that the texture of the wall really shows up (could be a negative or positive)

I really struggled deciding what to enter for this challenge. I was not 100% happy with the one I did enter, which scored just below my overall average and I was a little disappointed with the score.

Almost entered this one. I do like this and right at the last minute I wondered if I should use it, but didn't....

I entered this because I liked the lighting and the focus:

I didn't enter this because something about the focus did not seem quite right:

Much of this guys work doesn't remotely look like the Top 20 BUT it does resemble what today's food photography is. Give it a look. It's the real deal.

Andrew Barnowski Food 1

Andrew Barnowski Food 2

For the record I'm really really disappointed in the Top 20 with maybe three exceptions. I wish the crowd would have picked up a few magazines before they voted.

Just an opinion but some of the good stuff got buried deep...

I had heard about someone who took a photo of every dinner he had for many years. always thought that was cool

And those links are great, I especially like the top view photos.
You see lots of photos of perfectly placed foods, and they are no different in those.
However, there is tiny imperfections, maybe a couple of crumbs that are on a tray, that make you feel like this were made by someones two hands

Panos-This is my favorites of Andrew Barnowskis series from the book on Mediterranean food...

Eggplant and Goat Cheese Roulades

I'm not sure if there's a single thing in focus except for a little piece of parsely (LOL) but the dish and it's textures are unmistakeable. This is a picture where you can actually taste the food just by looking at it.

My image, which tanked was modeled something after this one in terms of dof...
Pesto Pasta something...

This image reminded me of Sarah Remingtons work.

I couldn't decide whether to go with the full setup or the close up. I used the close up for my entry. Should I have use the full setup one instead? Would you have scored it differently?

Thanks for the 8.

Go to his books section and in Mediterranean Fresh, image 4 is the one that has some similarities to my entry and image 18 is what I try to achieve in general but image 19 is pure genius.

Thanks for that link - you left this in my comment and honestly speaking, image 18 (the white square china) was what I had hoped to achieve. I guess mine missed quite a bit, but next time.......

Here's my Recipe outake:

I liked it better than my entry:

but someone on my team suggested that the European members might not like the braces since they're not as common there as here. Makes sense. I hadn't thought of that.
