Count me in
07/20/2008 09:56:05 PM · #178
So I know the FS counts, but for which week? Will it be for the second week of challenges or the third. The challenge begins on a saturday. I looked but couldn't find the answer. :)

Good question! Without looking at the calendar or thinking about it much, I figured the FS would count in the week in which it occurs. So, for example, since this month's FS deadline is Thursday July 31, it would count for the second week of the tourney, starting Sunday July 27th. Now that you mention it, though, a Saturday FS deadline would seem to push everything back a bit too far. So how about this ... so long as voting starts Friday or before, the FS counts in the week starting the preceding Sunday. If the FS hits on the weekend, it will roll the the next week. We'll deal with Speed challenges the same way. Sound good?

I'll update the OP every week to let everyone know exactly which challenges count in the current week, to avoid any confusion.

This has probably been answered but what happens if you enter more than once per week? Do you go by the lowest score of the week or an average of the two?

You have to declare in advance which one counts. In other words, you're going to have to gamble a bit. From the Rules in the original post:
3. If you enter more than one challenge, your first entry for the week counts, unless you post a message before that challenge starts stating otherwise.

So... basically, if you like your chances of your Members Challenge entry doing well, submit it and say nothing... if you think it'll struggle, declare it as a non-entry for this tournament and hope to hell that your able to take a good photo of an Exclusive Open Challenge. Fair enough.

I'm still not sure about what average will be used to compare to though.

It is your overall average vote received at the beginning of each week (I think)

Just to clarify for myself, the "first week" of the tournament will include the Cardboard Box member challenge and whatever open challenges are announced Wednesday morning.

If I enter the member challenge, that will automatically be the entry that counts, unless I send you a PM asking you to wait for my open challenge entry. I suppose that request will have to be made before voting starts on the member challenge entry, eh? Or is it acceptable to first see how voting goes?

This is all theory, of course, since it's going to be challenging enough just to have one entry a week!

You got it. Request has to be be made before voting starts on the member challenge (if you enter). You can either PM me or post something in the thread if you don't want the member challenge to count.

Yep! I am going to grab the starting averages this morning (west coast U.S. time!) soon as I can. Those will be the starting points for the first week. I will see if I can post them in the thread after I've grabbed them. (For most of us, you can just assume your target is going to be within .0001 or .0002 of your current average if you went and looked right now. For those with fewer challenges under their belt, the variance may be slightly higher.)

UPDATE: All starting averages now pulled. Will post them when I get the chance. Good luck everyone!

Here's the starting gun --

There are a total of 119 entrants alive for Week 1

The average starting score among all entrants is 5.5227. The median starting average is 5.4861 ( Hatchet). The highest starting average belongs to DrAchoo (6.4103); the lowest starting average is whiterook's (4.1280).

There are 14 entrants with starting averages above 6.0
There are 42 entrants with starting averages between 5.5 and 6.0
There are 54 entrants with starting averages between 5.0 and 5.5
There are 9 entrants with starting averages below 5.0

If someone can explain to me how to save an Excel, Word or .pdf document as a .jpg so I can post a picture of the full list with everyone's starting average here I will do that asap!

When it is on screen, hit the 'Print Screen' key. (This copies the contents of the screen into the clipboard.) Open the photo editor of your choice, open a new document and paste the contents of the clipboard into it. [CTRL+V] in Windows.

And only 3 are registered users the rest are members

wildcard, PDavis, and myself DarkRider

Do we get a handicap since we have fewer challenges to choose from :)

Yea! I hope we get something better than a cardboard box. Maybe it will be a piece of paper! LOL
It might be easier on us because we just have to think about two choices. Good luck everyone.

Forgive me if this has been answered, but the following scenario is legal right?

enter member challenge, watch it flounder for 2 days, decide to bail out and enter open challenge - notifying you to disregard the already entered member challenge?

I don't think so. Rule #3:

3. If you enter more than one challenge, your first entry for the week counts, unless you post a message before that challenge starts stating otherwise.
07/21/2008 07:09:05 PM · #200
yes, but that would mean deciding to do the open challenge before you even know what the open challenges are (if you wish to play the member challeng, that is, and are unsure if it'll score well)
