I have one and it is the best lens I've ever owned....I traded in my 18-200 VR to get the 80-200 f2.8 and couldn't be happier.

Definitely one of the best Nikon lenses. I used it often back in the days I was a Nikon man.... about 4 weeks ago that is :)

I have one and love it, but I believe the 80-200 is not a "S" lens, you would have to go to a 70-200 to get the silent motor, which is a better lens anyway.

Whoops my mistake... I had the 70-200 not the 80-200, I should have put my reading glasses on.

I guess there is a 80-200 AF-S lens, never knew that, but I think the 70-200 has replaced it, with VR

I have the 70-200 f/2.8 VR and love it. I don't always use it, but if there is a balcony, I usually have it up there.

It's good, I'll use it a good bit at weddings and events (the 80-200 af-s version, not the newer 70-200) but you see what it lacks next to images from the 85 1.4. If you don't need a zoom I would get primes in general, better all around, cept the whole no zooming thing. That's what legs are for right? But yeah, it definitely does a nice job if you need a zoom.
