Can anyone recommend me a place to buy good but inexpensive filters and lenses for a Powershot G3? And don't say eBay, because I won't do business with those New York shyster companies.

Actually, I'm kind of confused about how the filters work and whether or not you need a coverter for them. I know you need that piece for the wide-angle and telephoto lenses, but not sure about anything else.

I am confused and in your hands. Please help!

For my G2 I bought a lensmate and was pretty happy with it. Then I could just use any 49mm filters from //www.2filter.com/ or bhphoto.com

I have the lensmate adapters for my G3. I got the 52mm version since 52mm filters are cheaper than 58. All I needed to use for the teleconverter was the adapter and a 52 to 58 stepup ring.

I use the 58mm version. I like the extra area. BHphotovideo is where I buy most of my stuff that or KEHorBH

If your interested in the add on lenses, telephoto and wide angle.. PM me I'm going to sell mine. They're brand new, I've only had them a short time.

On the question of where, the links above are all good. And you're on the right track (generally) to stay away from the EBay stores - many of those low-priced package deals are pretty inferior, based on what I've heard and read.

On the question of how: To attach any lens or filter to your G3 you will need an adaptor, whether the Canon one or those mentioned above. There are no threads on the G3 or its lens for attaching filters or add-on lenses. For me, the adaptor is a very worthwhile investment. The adaptor itself can be purchased for under $25, then you can add filters and lenses as you're able. One of the first filters I'd suggest is a polarizer - it can produce great results where you have sky in the background, and helps reduce reflections off many surfaces. After that, it's my teleconverter - I have the Canon one, and I use it quite a bit.

I forgot this part in my email but if you get an adapter, get the lenscap that fits it, too. Then you can just leave the adapter on all the time which can be nice if the extra size doesn't bother you.
