Blurb.com printed a photo book for me, and it really came out nice. It is just a bunch of my favorite photos from my first year with a camera. I think I will probably make one of these every year. I have not really looked around into other sources to see if there is a difference between brands, but I was really pleased with the look of the print. The hardcover ran me about $29.00 for 35 pages which I thought was reasonable. I also made a little one of a vacation for $12.95 that was fantastic as a keepsake.

My Book

Any other places that you might recommend that prints photo books?

I don't know of other places that might do this

However I now know that this inspires me to look into the photo book idea and create something of my own

Very nice. Impressive photos. Thanks for sharing.

It was fun to create, and to be honest it is probably the best way for me to keep prints of my work around for people to see because actual prints can get so messy to keep, and I have no wall space to hang anything really. Just pop this on the bookshelf, somebody wants to see a photo of a band and there you have it...lol

I flowed mine from scenery to flowers to bands and models, so my book is all over the place. This summer I am going to theme and shoot an entire much longer book. I am looking forward to the fun challenge.

Beautiful images from the preview. Very nice job. Gordon has also made a book using the site linked below.

Here's the thread where you can find Gordon's book.

Those look fantastic. I am going to shoot for something like that this summer. It was good to get my feet wet with this one. They do take lots of work to put together, even one as simple as mine! But I am looking forward to putting out something I am really proud of early next year.

Costco's Photo Department offers it through a company called MyPublisher. Go to Costco's photo center if you are a Costco member although you can go directly to //www.mypublisher.com for more info.

'Grats, Jason! I'm still working on mine. They DO take a long time! Hopefully after my mini-vacation (taking the laptop!) I'll be a bit closer to getting mine published. Keep it up!

Ya, when I started putting it together it seemed like it would not take very long, but before I knew it I had many hours invested. If you start a book project I recomend working on it as you go, and organize your stuff for the book seperate from your other files. It would have made mine much easier to put together.

My brain isn't working properly. There is some self-publishing software that comes with the Mac and I cannot for the life of me remember what its called. I've seen the results are they are pretty good and since the program is already on your system (if you have a Mac) there's no extra download involved. Now if someone can remind me what its called before I lose my mind...

I just saw a book made through mypublisher.com last week and the results were great. A bit on the pricy side but you do get what you pay for. (Paper quality is superb btw)

Blurb was pretty decent for a book my fiancee and I did for here parents. Colors were a little saturated (overly so in some cases) but overall it did the job.

Just saw this thread. Definitely going to do this. My parents live in another state so I am going to make a book of the kids for them. Glad i saw this!

Nice looking book; I hadn't seen the blurb site before. I have spent a bit of time recently nosing around the MPix site, which now offers photo books as well. A little bit more -- $30-$50 for the first 20 pages + 50 cents for each additional page (up to 50 max), but the quality looks really nice. They also have free book software to use in designing the book, which is of course the way they hook you in, but still looks pretty nifty.

Ya, the MPIX books are more expensive, but I bet they are really quality. The blurb books are priced about right to use for just about anything. I am going to make books for all kinds of things because it is such a good way to organize your photos. Way better than scrapbooking in my opinion.

A buddy of mine used shutterfly and it didn't come out all that bad...not sure about the price but i think overall it was a good deal. //www.shutterfly.com/shop/product_c18000/Photo_Books

We put together a book using mypublisher.com thru Costco for a friend. It turned out BEAUTIFULLY!! This was last December, and even with the Christmas "rush" their turnaround time was good. Got it weeks before Christmas!

The leather cover was top rate!

How much did do the costco books run? One thing I do like about blurb is that you can put them for sale, so if family out of state ect wants to buy one you don't have to hassle with all of the buying and shipping issues. They can just go to the site and buy up a copy.

Ah, there's ALWAYS a catch :) But it still is a good deal. I don't have anything to compare their quailty with other vendors. All I know is we, and the gift receiver, were extremely pleased with the quality.

Thanks for the additional info.

Picaboo also does photo books that are pretty nice.

Yep! I am new to DPChallenge and I saw your post. I think I can help you! I am a consultant for a company called Creative Memories and they have a site www.CreativeMemories.com. They have tons of backgrounds, embellishments, sizes, and covers. The software is very easy to use, the quality is top-notch, and the technical support is phenomonal. Check it out. The Storybook software is free and you can upgrade to Storybook Creator 2 for a fee. I was surprised to see that CM is more reasonably priced than MPix. Also, we have Memory Manager which organizes your photos making them easy to find and use when you need them. If you decide to use CM please use my CM ID 53642591 when you place your order. Hope this helps!

I've made a ton of those books and I always do them through www.picaboo.com.

I tried Mypublisher and the quality was good but their software is really clunky and hard to maneuver. Picaboo is MUCH easier, there are more options and the price and quality are pretty much the same as Mypublisher. I do a family album every year of all our family pictures, I've done a few vacation memory books and I recently did a 2007 portfolio of my professional shots. They're fun to make and my kids love looking through them!

A co-worker of mine told me about lulu.com today. They also publish (hard or soft cover) and seemed pretty reasonably priced.

Your brain is in good working condition. Book creation is part of iPhoto, part of its interface really, and looks like this. Dead simple. Aperture 2 offers a very elegant way to publish highly customized creations which look like this, also directly from its interface.
Kodak does Apple's printing.
