The model in this photo looks like she has powder soft skin. How is this being done? Is this natural of from photoshop? I don't know any model who has this type of skin except from makeup and photoshop. Thanks for your tips!

Noise reduction filter.

Neat Image and Noise Ninja are preferred applications by most people. I am sure there are others.

An application called Portrait Professional will also give you skin like that.

Brad - Thanks for posting the tutorial. The soft skin tone almost resembles the sample I've posted.

Glad I stumbled onto her page. I was going to leave a comment, but I had to sign up for an account. It wasn't worth it, so I turned to you guys. If she used the technique Brad posted, it must have taken a long time to do? Here are some more samples. The skin tone is even and smooth. Thanks.

Yowza. To answer the question of "how" -- makeup? At least her face looks pretty made up.

It looks like a combination of 3 things, good makeup, good lighting, and good photoshop. As far as photoshop goes, I can tell you what I've been doing. Duplicate the background, use healing brush for bigger blemishes, then apply noise ninja ( I guess gaus, blur will work similarily). I then apply a layer mask, revealing the filter. I use the paintbrush at 100% opacity to bring back anything I want sharp (eyes/teeth/hair maybe), then I change the opacity to around 40-60 percent depending on what I think it needs, and paint over the rest of the skin. It does a good job of smoothing the skin out while still leaving details such as some pores. If you go too far the skin looks plastic.

Thanks for responding guys!

Click here to go to her site. I'm not advertising, but she seems to have a small, but artsy collection of photos. Looks like she's building up a portfolio.

I have used the Surface Blur filter in PS to get a similar effect. Surface blur will areas of low contrast while leaving your edges sharp. I would recommend duplicating the layer, doing a surface blur and using a layer mask to control the intensity and visability.

there's a set of actions called Mama Shan's Powder actions that does this kind of stuff in about 5 seconds. Easy peasy and very handy.

I'm guessing this was 50/50 makeup and photoshop.

Makeup and clean skin are good starts.

As mentioned above, I have used Noise Ninja, to totally smooth out an old person's wrinkled face.

Go here and download the trial. When you have the software go to Dynamic Skin Softener. This will give you this effect and quite nice too. The software is extremely simple and extremely powerful. You'll be amazed at the control you have. Enjoy!

She's got absolutely perfect skin -probably never had a zit all through highschool!- great makeup and lighting all in her favour.I would think relatively little PS done on her.

I have the mamas powder action and it's AWESOME! It would definitely make powder soft skin like that. I use it all the time!

Every time you see a soft model skin in a pic, you may be pretty sure this combination was used. 'Saving' a skin entirely in PS will render a plastic look.
