I'm looking for a P&S camera that can do decent macro work under difficult lighting situations including fluoroscent light. I've got a cheap fujifilm P&S that I use which is horrible (but hey it was only 120 bucks) as it always has trouble focusing and doesn't seem to have any shake reduction.

Any recommended cameras out there? I've looked at the Canon G9 but its a tad expensive. I was looking for something in the $300 range.

I have a Powershot S5 IS and it does great for macro work. In super macro mode, it can focus with the lens touching an object. It can do even better with a macro adapter installed. If you would like to see what this camera can do in capable hands, check out this guy's Flickr page He has also rigged up some effective and inexpensive lighting kits for the macro work.

It can be had for anywhere from $300-400 currently, depending on where you look.

The slightly older S3 has identical optics, a smaller screen, and is 6 Mp, rather than 8. Those are a relative bargain as well.
