My scores are really all over the place. The last vote was a 9 and the vote before that was a 2! I'm hoping my typical scoring curve applies, and everything rebounds after day 1!

I'm really confused...is yellow not considered a warm tone? This is rediculous lol

Several comments I've received, (plus what people are saying in this thread) are leading me to believe that voters are looking for a conveyance of warmth and not just the use of warm colors. Another case of people not reading the description or at least not understanding the terminology. The sad thing is that I think my warm colors entry is pretty darn good, but my pathetic entry into the DNMC challenge is now higher.

It comes down to people getting Sooo picky in a challenge like this: if their own picture is voted down they tend to go out and mark everyone else down and cling on to a narrow definition of what is right and wrong... In my book "Warm" absolutely includes tan and browns and taupes and all those earthy natural colours... as I alluded to earlier, you can have an almost 90% yellow image, but because of composition and subject it could come across as being anything BUT warm...tending towards more Crisp and Fresh and Sunshiny and cool pool-side suggestions... images that could easliy pass for cool lemonade or chill ice-cream ads..... So it comes down to perception and interpretation. Just wish people would keep an open mind and not cling to a closed personal definition. Harping back to the recent "Blurry Mess" challenge: I personally interpreted the topic as being more about Mess than Blurry. My image was blurred (by my own definition because it was OOF) and it was certainly a mess, but I got hammered by almost every voter and got DNMC's because it was not complete blur... forgive me, but my interpretation led me to believe I had a good chance by making a Mess rather than just Blur (otherwise the challenge would have been called "Blur"...not so?). Mosty high scorers were Blurry Beautifuls not Blurry Messes.... But did it affect my voting? No not in the least. I kept an open mind.

Right now with Warm Colours... it comes down to how much you like the photo, if it passes the basic requirements and if it does include at least SOME warm colour (browns, yellows, reds, tans and taupes and beiges and oranges or whatever) it should score at least a 5....?

Play nice people.

Brown is clearly on the warm side.

Source: //www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=278465

But the people that don't think it is warm are not reading this thread.

If you will notice, reds are at the low end. Huh? That's the difference between physics and how we interpret things.

From Color Temperature at about.com:
Originally posted by about.com:

Contrary to what colors we tend to think of as "hot" and "cold", red is actually a cooler temperature than blue according to Kelvin scale. Still, in photographic terms, we refer to bluish light tint photographs as "cool" and reddish light tint photographs as "warm".

So, according to this, you could put a photo of a glowing fireplace poker into the cool colors challenge and you would be technically correct.

my warm score is defienelty tepid right now.

And this is the first challenge I have ever entered that I am a little puzzled as to why I am getting the score I am.

Will have to postmortem this one I think!

I think it comes down tot he difference between what is technically a warm color and what people perceive as appearing warm. I have been interpreting according to the color spectrum.

D'oh, my color wheel must be really screwed up. My comments come down to 1)not warm enough 2)a little warm 3)this is actually cool. Weird. I must have a different wheel than everyone else.

This is such an interesting challenge. It really forces one into learning something more about the world around one. For more discussion on "warm colours/tones" see the adjacent thread and especially

Urfa's color pallette example

Personally my score is cooling down rapidly. Been at 5.8 for ages now after a day one high of 6.3 for almost 18 hours...

Of the six comments, two are helpful constructive criticisms. The other four comments are nit-picking comments saying that the warm spectrum colors in my image are "not warm enough" for them. Seems like some people are defining the challenge much more narrowly than was intended. The only thing I can do is to cast my votes based on technical and artistic merits of images and on the basis that the images in my voting window meet the challenge, without applying any arbitrary narrower definition.

I seem to be dodging the "not warm enough" battle. I've been waiting for the reality check but so far the votes and comments have been very kind.

Spoke too soon, the next single vote took .02 from the average. No complaints though, experience says it won't move too far from here after 100 votes (I hope). This has potential for a top three PB

First challenge and wasn't expecting to get this high for what I considered to be a pretty mediocre image! There are some superb shots in this challenge - I think I need to raise the bar for the centered compositions :)

Question for you - can you see what scores are being given during the voting - ie a breakdown of x many 1s, y many 2s etc?

I seriously doubt it because my submission definitely conveys warmth, it uses warm colors, and I personally think it's quite decent... but I'm getting around 0.5 lower than expected, which is quite big in terms of overall scores.
