There I was walking around the lands to get a shot and I see this little pond, I think nothing of it because I am in the middle of nowhere and obviously this pond was man made. I get down to get a low angle shot at a landscape and I hear this hiss. I look up it was a 8 foot gator looking right at me. The first thing I did was stand up, I walked slowly away. Lucky for me, it was overcast outside and the gator didnt have the energy or the interest in me. But got me thinking, How in the world did that Gator get into that pond? The nearest river was at least 10 miles away. Talk about being aware of your surroundings. I could have been gator bait. ;)

LoL I only had my wide angle with me and I had no intentions on getting close to that gator again. ;)

My first thought was "I don't think I ran into and DPC'ers today"

But after reading I agree with trevytrev Did you get a nice close up?

That big hiss is a wake up call if it is very close by.
Here's something for you to remember the moment with.
Ring Tone/ Gator Growl

No, no closeups. I didnt think that Mr Gator wanted his picture taken. I think that some crazy farmer put that thing in there so that people would stay off their land. I tell you, that time it worked. I wont be sitting foot on there again ;)

Come on man, you gotta head back there with a pair of those meat underwear pants that Steve-O wore on jackass, and make sure you get pics:)

The inside of the gator's mouth would certainly qualify as a "harsh environment". So get back there now and get some pics (perhaps with the telephoto this time) while you still have another 3 hours or so to submit something. This way everyone will be sure to see them.

Alligators can travel some distances looking for new water holes in which to feed, etc. 10 miles is a bit of a march but not unheard of for an alligator to make such a march. Lucky you weren't lunch. A mere 3-4 foot gator can take down an adult male so an 8 footer would have made easy meat of you.

A wide angle lens is no excuse...it's an opportunity :)

I'll see your gator and raise you one.
Robert's image is sharper, but I didn't want to hang around looking thru the viewfinder for too long. These things can outrun a horse for about 20 yards.
