I'm delighted to announce the 2008 Earth Day Photo Contest.

Sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Show Us Your Best Photo for Earth Day

Has your community organization cleaned up a stream? Have you enjoyed a day in the woods? Has a wild animal ever sparked your imagination?

If you've caught anything like those moments in a photo, share it with us! We want to see how you would show EPA's mission to protect human health and the environment. Send us your best photos in three categories:
· Enjoying the environment
· Protecting the environment
· Nature and wildlife

To encourage participation and provide maximum public access, the contest will be hosted on the photo sharing site Flickr.com. People around the world are encouraged to enter.

The contest will run as follows:
March 24: entries due
April 1: Finalists announced, public voting for winners begins
April 15: voting ends
April 22 (Earth Day): winners announced

Finalist and winning photos will be featured on EPA's Web site.

Full details about the contest, including how to enter

Thanks for the heads up, Jeffrey. I hope many of the nature photographers on this site will enter.

PS: Nice shot, Nick!

Hey Jeffery, that's pretty cool that you are involved in something like this. Is this part of your regular job responsibilities?

Is it ok to have a watermark on your entry? I watermark all of my shots on Flickr.
If it were to win, I could send you a non-marked image.

Watermarks aren't specifically prohibited, but they really mess with an image's quality. I'm not a judge, and the people who are will be flipping through dozens of images without watermarks. I'd say you're risking it.

I'd suggest just uploading a small image, like 600 on a side. Also, you could put it up on 3/24, then then take it down after judging.

Thank-you levyj413. I went in and changed the levels. What do you think of this one?

Definitely better, Angel. Try moving the black and white triangles inward some more and see what you think.

I'm trying to enter the earth day competition on flickr but I don't see where I can enter my photo. Anyone out there that can help?

Did you click the link in the first post? Please read the rules there and then click the link on that page to whichever category you want to enter.

Basically, you upload your shot to flickr, then join the group for the category, then put your shot in that group's pool.

If all of that is gibberish, there are instructions on that page on how you can email in your entry.

Here's the URL again: //www.epa.gov/earthday/photocontest/

I did all that but there isn't a link in the pool to upload my image.

I was thinking of entering this in the protecting the environment. I call it the recycler. Would that be a far reach or do you all think it would fit with the theme. Originally I was trying to enter it in this past weeks challenge, but I didn't get it in in time. I have been working on it a bit since I didn't get it finished on time. I still have some more that I want to do to it.

I was thinking of putting this in ... what size do the files have to be?
