we're out. We just booked a trip to North Woods of Maine. Maybe next time.

No problem. I may try and do this again next year as well, with the caveat that my uncle is considering retirement one of these days :-) Have a great time in Maine - it is absolutely gorgeous up there!

We're gonna go, and if he does it again next year, I want a FALL trip...please.

Eric, that's awesome! I can't wait for this trip - and by the way, if you want to extend your time in Cody for a few days before or after, I'll be there, so we could also do some extra photo ops, hiking, etc.

I would love to do this, Yellowstone is one of my favorite places, but we already have our plans for this year. Maybe we could do something in fall or winter next year? We've been wanting to go in the winter for the last couple of years, and haven't been able to get it together.

I've uploaded some further photos of the area between Cody and Yellowstone. My uncle Bob is the guy dressed in regular clothes - the guy in Western gear with the handlebar mustache is one of his good friends.

Photos Between Cody, WY and Yellowstone

Edit to add: forgot to add that one of the photos is of my husband and me. Obviously my uncle is a little older than that, LOL. And the wildlife in these shots - bison, eagle, wild turkeys and mountain sheep were all taken before we even got to the park.

Ann - winter in Yellowstone is absolutely fantastic. It would take a lot of logistical planning, but would make a wonderful DPC trip.

Wow, what a great opportunity. I'd definately go if I didn't have a trip planned already.

I'm flying out to Jackson WY this Sunday Mar2nd!! I really can't wait, and this thread isn't making it any easier!! Your photo's look terrific.

I just picked up a new wide angle/polarizer for the trip.

I'm popping in to touch base on this trip. Although I've had lots of people send me PM's, indicate they are planning to sign up, contacted my uncle, etc., I haven't gotten firm commitments (deposits). Unfortunately, if I don't have enough people firmly signed up by mid-April, I will have to forfeit this trip, as my uncle is holding it open as a favor (he is only covering his costs on this and can definitely sell the weekend at a profit to other customers).

Please note I will be there for a few weeks surrounding the trip, so could do some hiking, etc. with anyone who wants to spend some extra time in the Cody environs. My grandparents are from Cody, so I know the area well. Other cool activities in the area include fossil hunting, fishing, rock climbing, and the Buffalo Bill Historical Museum in Cody, which is fantastic.

Rare Yellowstone Park / Cody, Wyoming / Rodeo Opportunity
Aug 1-3 2008

This is truly a “chance of a lifetime” opportunity to photograph wildlife, geysers, incredible scenery, waterfalls and flora. My uncle Bob Richards, who owns and operates Grub Steak Tours, was the last horse ranger in Yellowstone Park and knows the park and surrounding area inside and out – his knowledge of history, geology, folklore and photography are unbelievable. His father, Jack Richard, was one of the best-known photojournalists of the west and Yellowstone, and Bob has followed in his footsteps.

I recently toured Yellowstone and Cody with him as part of a family vacation, and was so impressed that I asked him about putting a package together for DPC. He is generously offering his tours at ½ price. His recommendation is a three-day tour including Yellowstone, the North Fork of the Shoshone River between Cody, WY and the park (which Teddy Roosevelt called “the most scenic 50 miles in the US), and Grand Teton.

I haven't processed most of my photos from my recent trip, but here is a small sampling:

The itinerary is as follows:

July 31 – Thursday: Arrive in Cody, WY (there are direct flights from Denver, CO). As Bob has generously offered me the use of one of his vehicles, I can pick you up at the airport and take you to your hotel in downtown Cody. We can assist with hotel arrangements. Bob recommends The Americana Hotel, around $150 per night.

Aug 1 – Friday: 1st Day Tour of Yellowstone Park. Lunch is provided.

Aug 2 – Saturday: 2nd Day Tour of Yellowstone Park. Lunch is provided. Attend Cody Night Rodeo, the longest running rodeo in the United States, having operated for over 60 years. Many of the nation's greatest cowboys started their rodeo careers in Cody. Tickets are $17.00 each for adults. The rodeo begins at 8:00 PM.

Aug 3 – Sunday: Tour Grand Teton. Lunch is provided. Those needing to return home can do so.

Aug 4 – Monday: Return home.

Bob knows the places we are most likely to encounter mammals living in Yellowstone, big and small. When I toured with him this winter I saw wolves, bighorn sheep, bison (American buffalo), coyotes, snowshoe hares, trumpeter swans, eagles (both bald and golden), elk and a variety of other smaller mammals and birds. Moreover, Bob knew how to safely get me close enough to photograph them!

The price of this package is $225 per person or couple per day (there is a small surcharge for meals for couples). Bob’s usual rate is $450 per day.

Bob would like to limit this opportunity to six photographers, so it is first come, first serve. Further information on the company: //www.grubsteaktours.com. Please PM me for further info or post here. [/quote]
