Yo,

According to kenrockwell.com it has been confirmed that there will be NO REPLACEMENT FOR THE CANON 5d.

No word if one is due to be annouced in the Summer as this statement was delivered in one sentence on his website. It also doesn't specify if a new model will be released under 3d or 7d names, but I'm clutching at straws here.

If you're looking to upgrade to a 5d, or it's replacement (like me), you might want to hang about a few months to see what transpires.

Makes me kind of glad Im having my old 5D repaired, new sensor filter and full service. Must be very hard to replace the 5D it is a very good camera at a very good price.

I love mine, I am sort of a bit sad that they have not announced a new version because according to rumour it was going to be an Awesome machine.

ah well, 1d mkIII for me it is I think! Shame as I was looking forward to seeing what the new 5D would of been like, looking at Canons recent advances I reckon it would be a mighty beast.

I'm glad I didn't wait untill the "new" 5D came up (and maybe profit from a lower price)

Darn. I was hoping for something this year - I was planning up upgrading from my 300D to the 5D in June but was expecting a newer version in August 07, so I opted for a 'temporary' 30D (instead of the tiny-in-my-hand 400D). Guess I'm going to be living with 1.6x magnification for a little while longer yet - I really really REALLY want full frame and real focal lengths again...

Well, PMA isn't over yet. I half suspect (hope) that Canon is saying there isn't going to be one, to build up the talk, then reveal one and capitalise on the gossip... again, i'm clutching at straws though.

I really want a full frame camera, but don't want to splash out on a 5d for the replacement to come out 2/3 months after. Time will tell though.

I just upgraded to a 5D for a really good price ($1795, came with a grip), I don't see these cameras going for much cheaper for another year. Even though there is no replacement for the 5D coming soon, I know my wedding season will rock this year! :)

Probably because Canon is sorting out all the problems with the 1D MkIII first (the fix did not fix the problems). Also, there is no rush for Canon to do anything as there is no competition in the 35mm segment at this price level yet. Altough to be fair the 5D is now being beat by several APS-C / DX cameras.
The second thing is that Sony is likely to use its 24mp fullframe sensor in a 5D competitor which will be launched before or at Photokina. At the same time you can expect a D3X, and maybe a Nikon fullframe budget camera. All nice in time for Christmas.
When Sony starst to massproduce 35mm sensors the prices are going to drop.

In what terms? Resolution maybe. Image quality, no way. And you still can't beat the advantages of being full frame.

That would be surprising. I have my doubts that they will come anywhere near the 5D price point with a 24mp sensor. And that's part of the allure of the 5D. You simply can't beat the image quality for the price. And the fact that it keeps coming down in price ... only makes the deal sweeter.[/quote]

Edit: I just read where someone is claiming that Sony themselves announced that their 24mp sensor will go into a camera meant to compete with the 5D. That changes things ... I thought you were just wildly guessing. So ... never mind!

Still happy with my 5D. I think Canon was thrown by the high iso capability of the Nikon's new full frame D3. They may be trying to come close to those high iso's, get 16mps, keep the small size of the camera, and keep the price reasonable. If they could do all of that, I would have no choice but to replace mine.

I'm quite surprised. I have a friend wanting to upgrade from his Rebel XT to the 40D or possibly the 5D. I told him to go for the 5D, but to wait because a 5D replacement has to be close and the 5D might drop even more in price. I was really curious to see one myself.
