The Jan. 2008 issue of Rangefinder "Power of B&W" has an interesting quote by Rene De Careufel that I've always wanted to try but haven't yet....

Rene De Careufel:
"I was always shooting directly in black and white in RAW format, because I knew I wanted black-and-white images, and this way I could easily preview the highlights, tonal range, contrast and shadow details I was looking for. After all, who would have shot color Polaroids when a black-and-white roll of film was in camera a few years ago?" Page 34 of Rangefinder

Since I shoot in RAW anyway I think this would help a lot...and you could still process in color if you wanted to since it would be just the preview in black and white. Does anyone else do this?

B&W Conversion...?

In an online Lightroom Tutorial the guy uses Grayscale but still has access to all the color information ...like the Channel Mixers "Monochrome" command. Seems to work really well. In particular, I like the way it handled this image but I'm curious what the B&W conversion experts here think...? (no hijack intended...just sharing and questioning). tnx

I am going to be traveling for the next few days. I will try to catch up on comments when I get back to some internet. Great stuff here!

I haven't had a chance to shoot for this week yet, but here's one of the make-up shots - granted, it's from September, not the first week of January... Comments are not necessary on this fill-in but suggestions for improvement (which can include deletion!) are welcome. I will get something up for this week at some point.

I'm posting my Week four as my first since that is the week we started. I have my other three weeks in my portfolio if interested. I'm going to try and actually use pics taken in the week they are to be used, so far so good but we shall see! Please feel free to hit me with suggestions or critique, now off to leave some comments.

Bye everyone!

We're leaving town until Sunday night. It will be fun getting back and getting caught up on everyone's new posts :)

We're going to meet a couple of our good friends from Colorado in Huntsville, Texas where they will be doing a 100-mile run! On foot . . . without stopping. We'll be their cheerleaders and support crew (and photographer of course :). Too bad we didn't have a psychiatrist to bring along. . .surely something must be troubled in one's mind to want to do something that insane, huh? :)

Hmmmm. . . might be good material for my next week's black and white :)

See ya Sunday night!

Likely to see a LOT of snow shots in the coming weeks, it's been snowing now off and on for the last 3 days and looks set to continue.

ok, I think I've commented on all pics till here, let me know if I've missed anything.

Am now in week 6 mode and not sure what to shoot but am edging towards reshooting an old shot (just to see if I've improved any).
