I haven't had any GREAT challenge ideas lately... I think that a challenge entitled "From Above" would be a neat follow-up challenge for "From the Ground Up" possibly... The tag line on this challenge could read something like this:

Photograph any subject from a vantage point above your subject... the vantage point should give the feeling that you are looking down on the subject from the highest angle possible... straight down would be best :)

Add: "If at all possible, use the same subject as for your ''From the ground up'' entry."

Kidding aside, I kind of like how these "angle" challenges make me look at every day stuff totally in a new way. Good topic.

UH-UH!!! NOT gonna put my digital camera on my kite. :-) I do have some pictures taken with a kite camera kit and a disposable camera, but they''re not digital.

Patella, I didn't even know kite camera kits exist!!! Those shots are pretty cool, and it sounds like a lot of fun. How does it all work, does the camera just take pictures from time to time or how do you trigger it?

I did a quick search on the web for the kit I used and found this. You might be able to find one cheaper elsewhere. (I found mine at a local planetarium -- but I'd seen them online before.)

Basically, it's a very low tech system. A box with a rubber band powered lever that holds a disposable camera. Wind the camera, cock the lever on the kit, insert a cotterpin to keep the lever from clicking the camera trigger, and tie a kite line to the cotterpin. Attach the whole thing to a kite (attached to a separate line), send it up, and when you're ready to take a picture, pull on the string holding the cotterpin in place. The lever snaps down, and the camera takes a picture. Pull the whole thing down and reset. (I spent more time getting the kite in the air and bringing it down than anything else.)

Fun little toy, but I need to figure out a way to attach it more firmly to the kite -- I dig the radial motion blurs, but I'd also like to get some that aren't quite so strong.

Don't worry. You can TOTALLY do rat fur from above.

Uh, considering my entry, could we hold off on this aspect of the challenge until I check the NASA reservation system?

I don't think the Rocket Kits previously cited will get high enough.

Geez, there's always someone who has some nitpicky reason why we can't do a challenge! ;-)

I think it''s a fine topic -- I just don''t want to be penalized if I pick a different subject, such as the out-take I should have submitted...
