Kevin - I'll hold my tongue "a little bit" too...

1. Please be sure of your facts - I personally watched several friends (who couldn't afford $38, let alone almost 4 grand!) who participated in our local Komen race .

2. I stated that the charity of choice would be decided by the majority of those who donate - hence James' reference to "put up or shut up"; its a famous quote; please look that up too, should you find it somehow offensive.

3. My own mother died TWICE while hospitalized with lung cancer, but was (fortunately) revived & is still here to enjoy her 3 granddaughters... whom I worry about developing breast cancer one day (tyvfm).

4. I don't respect your post enough to tell you the rest. Suffice it to say, you should probably re-read this thread and become better informed.

Could SOMEONE please get this thread back on track? Anyone with example pics for the challenge, maybe? ;) A donation, perhaps?

Billy

#1. What did I say that was political?

#2. Who peed in your cornflakes today to make you so AGGRESSIVELY HOSTILE to reasoned, dissenting opinion?

#3. Who made you leader of the world?

#4. The post is about the suggestion of a challenge. Last time I checked, this was not a site for only "yes-men" to reply. If I feel there is a reason for not doing it (or in support of it) I have every right to reply.

So...

Please don't turn this into hate-speech. If you don't like discussion, then keep YOUR mouth shut.

Thank you.

Didn't your parents teach you right. IF YOU HAVE NOTHING NICE TO SAY THEN KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT. I in no way was rude to you and your post is totally uncalled for. I hope SC will remove it:

Hawkeyelonewolf, I don't completely dissagree with you in your first post. Make your own thread though and don't let other people get to you so easily.

Um, to keep this somewhat on track...

There have been NO contributions since yesterday - would anyone care to change that fact, please?

We need a breast challenge to show our support.

//www.nbcam.org/index.cfm

Oh please no...

The world is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO saturated already with this. How about lung cancer? Colon cancer? Cancers or diseases that affect MORE people than breast cancer?

I've held my tongue on this, but really. Breast cancer IS bad, I've had relatives with it, but still, the ratio of attention to effect is way out of proportion. And that Komen walk is such nonsense too... My sis-in-law did it and they REQUIRE a certain HUGE amount of particpation (like $3800 in donations) just to be able to walk. Let people raise/contribute whatever they can.

Perhaps we just do an PSA (public service announcement) challenge and let people pick their cause.

I have to agree with you. There is a whole month that is for breast cancer awareness, along with shirts...kitchen equipment... and a lot of other pink things with a pink ribbon on it ...
There isnt a a whole month for ALS. My family is one of few with familial ALS in it. Nor is there a whole month of pancreatic cancer, which has struck my family.
The challenge being turned into a PSA challenge would benefit ALL types of cancer or diseases. Not just the most popular type of cancer to hit the airwaves and stores.

My parents taught me just fine. I reread my post and it's fine, nothing offensive. You turned it nasty. Sorry for you.

I'm sure of my facts. At least in the Atlanta area from about 5 years ago. Perhaps they've improved their system and if so that's wonderful. I didn't say a person had to pay $3800, but they had to raise that much support.

I also said nothing to indicate I think breast cancer is a piece of cake or anything of the sort -- anyone reading into that is not being genuine. Just that we're oversaturated with this one disease that's become a "fad" or "trend" to support to the extent of ignoring other more harmful causes.

Simple common sense that's all.

I've stated it and am done. Usually being politically INcorrect, means being CORRECT.

THANK YOU!!! Someone out there is thinking! :)

No matter if I agree with you are not you should still not point it out in this thread and change the subject. From my understading Thread-Hijacking here is not looked upon as a good thing. And I still don't understand why anyone from SC has not jumped in a removed these post and asked you to start another thread.
10/08/2007 09:16:22 PM · #36
I completely understand your point - I just think that (a) you didn't need to dissuade others from participating or helping and (b) I wouldn't have done that to you.

By the way, just how much 'more harmful' does a cause need to be? Isn't the mutilation of a woman's body enough?

No?

How about DEATH?

Because THIS thread is about a suggested CHALLENGE -- in the Challenge Suggestions forum. Were this on RANT or Personal Life it would be a different matter.

Still doesn't give you the right to come in here and do that. Thread-hijacking is thread-hijacking no matter where it is.

GROUP HUG!! :D

Lets get back on track, and if you really don't like the idea then kindly stay out of this thread and/or start one in the rant forum...

And continuing it is continuing to hijack.

He offered his opinion, that's allowed, whether you like it or agree with it or not.

Stop going back and forth because that just takes everything further off course.

Langdon.......

10/09/2007 08:00:05 PM · #45
Most definitely! It has been 2 1/2 days, and I've seen him logged in here...

(SC, if I'm not going about this the correct way, please let me know.)

There are many differences between men and women. More than I care to think about. But equally in the good and bad areas.

I feel men get treated very unfairly in some departments (and I am not necessarily talking about the human body). But I also feel women get treated unfairly in a lot of areas.

Regardless of this...when there is an area of need within the human race, then I feel it takes both men and women to pull together and help find a solution to help ease the situation as well as the pain of those suffering.

Holding a challenge on a photo site is minimal in comparison to what people are doing out there for such causes...so I really cannot see the harm it would do by holding such a challenge. In some ways I feel it could bring awareness globally to people who would otherwise be nonetheplus about such a need.

I am fully aware that there are needs out there that just don't get the media attention. I am saddened for that. But I do not feel the need to berate one thread because it isn't about the condition that you feel passionate about. If that is a concern for you...then make your own thread, make your own challenge suggestions, think of ways you can raise awareness...but don't put down one fight in the human race just because you want the fight to be directed elsewhere.

There is enough passion within the human race to help everyone...so let's do it.

Challenge related:

fwiw... i'm for it. If it doesn't become a challenge make it a side challenge.

Thread releated:

statistic from canadian cancer society... in 2007,

22700 women diagnosed with breast cancer and 1400 will die from it.

22300 men diagnosed with prostate cancer and 4300 will die of it.

Anything we can do to stop this invader (cancer) is a very noble cause. The invader does not care if you are male, female, young, old, where you are from, or your race. Yes there is a large amount of press regarding BC. However, I believe it also raises awareness for other type cancers.

Also protocols from breast cancer research are used to battle other types of cancers and vise-versa. My mother passed away from this invader and my wife is in her 5 year of being BC free. She still takes oral hormonal blocker every day. I myself also have been attacked by the invader, however I will not infringe on the noble purpose of this thread.

Fotomann_Forever you are to be commended for suggesting the challenge!
