This time last year one of the most important discoveries happened in my life, my Dad was found.
For those of you that weren't here or have forgotten, just look in the forums for Steve Davidson and you will find that last year in July and August, there was a great effort by the DPC community to help find my Dad. It was nothing less than awesome. Imagine people from all over the world trying to find a single person, seemingly a needle in a haystack. But people came together. The people of DPC came together and our thoughts were answered.
I can't tell you what that is like, finding your Dad. I didn't share this last year, but when my Aunt and I went down to Arizona to look for my Dad, I distinctly remember a day towards the end of our stay there where everything really hit me. I broke down in a local grocery store thinking that I had lost my Father forever. I knew that I was looking for him because he was lost. I knew that someone had to know something, and I was quite focused on my goal, but at the store I broke down. My Dad was lost. My Dad was gone. My Dad was dead, and there was nothing I could do to change that.
Nothing.
If I had only known what would come about in the next week. I would have realized that it was ok, and that I shouldn't worry, because not only would my Dad be found, but that he would be alive again! Alive again, more time to share with him. It is a wonderful feeling.
Not only was he alive, but in the coming year, he would move back to family and spend many days with us, talking about politics, going on photo-safaris and sharing time with his new grandson.
I wish there was more that I could do for him. What does a person do for someone that has risen from the grave, for someone that is not lost to time forever, who you get to spend time with once again. It makes me want to climb the Superstition Mountains. If only those mountains were named Worry or Doubt. I could fathom the changes to come and know that I had conquerored them without climbing them.
My Dad had overcome them, literally, brought out from the desert a new life to spend with his family. I will enjoy every moment with a renewed outlook.
I hope that this inspires you all that read this to be proud of the DPC family that helped my Dad. But not only that, be proud of yourselves. Think of your families and friends. Remember their importance in your life and enjoy all the moments you have with them.
I want to thank everyone whose thoughts went out to my Dad and the family. I am greatful for all the help everyone contributed. I am especially thankful for those that came to our aid and gave my aunt and I a place to stay during our search, Tina and Daryl. What would I do without you? People gave us money, people gave us suggestions, people gave us prayers, and I thank you all. I thank you all. I have my Dad back, family has their lost relative back and friends enjoy his company once again.

Wow can't believe it has been a year already. I am glad to hear that even more good can be added to the story.

Yeah, a year already? Jeez. Well I remember it. I cite that incident as an example of the type of community this is - since "offline people" tend not to understand how complete strangers (especially strangers "on the internet") can have this type of community, friendship and comradery.
Also, I am writing a tell-all book about the incident, but I wasn't that involved and I'm too lazy to review the detailed posts about it, so I'm making most of it up. ;-)

Your lovely post really lifted my heart. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and emotion with us and for remembering the strength and spirit of this community.
As Art says above, people who don't belong to internet communities often fail to understand the bonds and positivity that can exist or come into being through them in times of need.
A lovely post indeed.

The short version is that in mid-July of last year,  stdavidson went missing. He was found on 11 August 2006, due in large part to an effort launched in the thread above.

Hard to believe its been a year. I remember when this all came down and wondering how I could help. This was and still is the only online community I am part of, so at the time I was suprised to see so many people jump at the chance to help somebody they haven't met. The support from almost everybody on this site is astounding and makes me proud to be a member. In the past year many of us have lost loved ones, and usually when we do we share our feelings here. Again, the support is overwhelming. I'm glad Steve made it back safe and sound. I'm happy that he is getting time to spend with family and friends, especially his new grandson. Here is to another year and many more to come. (Raise you glasses and toast Steve, his family and yourselves. We all derserve it.)

Great post Orion, thanks for the reminder and for sharing. That was a very good day!
I remember getting the call, firing a quick email to my boss "found safe, gotta go!" and running the 1/4 mile to my truck, probably setting some local record!
And the response here, unbelievable! The full story of his search is one of the greatest untold stories of all time. To hear one year later that it's a very happy ending is like adding a scoop of ice cream to a cold glass of root beer!

Great to see this reminder of the tense time last year when we were all wondering if we would communicate with Steve Davidson again. People called in favors (wasn't there a light plane/helicopter on call at one point?) posters printed, searching organizations pestered, newspapers hounded and all sorts of disciplined organization happening here.
Well, this nice guy's been back for a year now, enjoying his family and a new photographic venue. It was just a terrific coda to read your comments today, Orion.
