My 2 younger sons are both involved in youth wrestling (my oldest also at the college level) -- a sport that is very big in my part of the country (Pennsylvania). I started taking my camera to their tournament to record some of their matches. I soon realized that shooting other matches was an enjoyable way to pass an otherwise interminable day in a hot, sweaty, noisy gym. So now I try to get as many as I can of our club members -- when they are on top!

In any event, I posted a bunch from last weekend's tournament at:

There's about 6 pages of thumbs.
Thanks for taking a look and let me know what you think!

cool shots, could have been better technically though. No mats? Seems kinda painful on the hard wood floor, no?

I really love children;s sports. It's cool to see little people doing sports stuff. Good stuff!

Those are mats, you can tell by the circles. Also, I don't think any parent would let their young son (or daughter even, some of them wrestle too, I remember my brother being beaten by a girl at a wrestling tournament, I remind him of it all the time) participate on hardwood floors. Almost everyone would break a wrist. The color is deceiving though.

Those are pretty good shots. I tried taking some of my son when he was in wrestling but they all turned out to grainy because lack of lighting. Well done. My only critique would be get their whole body in the shot. Way to go.

Boy, do those take me back! My favorite sport! I started about that age. Started in gymnastics in 2nd grade in NM, moved to a small CO town and went into wrestling. Did competitive for 12 years (into college). It started to get to be no fun anymore then.
I like some of them without the whole body in the pic (especially the ones with the pins in them-shows the anguish and struggle more). when the are up on their feet, portrait would work much better. Close-ups of them doing different moves (with mainly only one in pic) work well, also.
I am anticipating many of these types of photos to come, considering I have a 2 year old, and we wrestle already. (C: And I will enjoy seeing your different shots, angles, and tips as you progress.

Yeah. That's a mat.

is the best one :) Love the two very different states of emotions going on there.

I hear ya' on PA wrestling. Are they going to hold the state championships in Hershey again this year? If they do it will be REALLY nice at the new Giant center.
