I'm creating this thread to encourage people to show, week after week, challenge after challenge, their preferences for different photos than the ones winning DPC ribbons. I think it's important to give some visibility to other works not aligned with the mainstream taste, and give support to photographers with different views and approaches to photography.

So, after each challenge, you are encouraged to post here your personal winners, photos that did not won a DPC ribbon and are not align with the masses taste, but won your heart instead.

Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference. Let’s show some.

A warm comment in a photograph can do a lot.
Jorge.

PS: Please notify the owner of every photograph posted here, and let him or her know about your support.

It appears we have similar taste. I gave those photos 10, 10, and 9 respectively.

I agree is Smardaz, Dowsedesigns did a great job in this transitions shot that IMO, was way under rated.

As did I; I can't believe this scored all the way at the bottom of the heap. Sheesh!

I agree too, its a cool perspective and a different kind of subject

a couple people made really positive comments on my candid entry, wondering why it scored so low, the main thing that i can think of is that people thought it was posed, is there any other reason besides that that it scored low?

for robinssong

It didn't do well because most thought it was posed. This is a street party that occurs once a month in downtown Melbourne, Florida and robinssong happened upon this man selling some interesting perfumes. He happened to look up just when she took it. The colors, the composition, the bottles and the expression on the mans face is priceless. IMHO!

It does look posed - beautiful subject though. I think if "wet" were the topic it might have done better.

I thought these two shots were fantastic but the DPC masses can't stand anything that isn't cliche'

Wow! Thanks Becky! I am so new to candids and after mustering up all the courage to take photos of strangers doing their thing and getting what I thought was a really nice image, it wasn't all that great according to voters. It's OK. I can accept that but I didn't really understand what I was supposed to do, a la DPC until after I read my comments and other photographers comments after the challenge was over. There's such a narrow little niche you have to conform according to the voters. It's difficult sometimes because new rules will leak into the voting population after you've already submitted. IE... in a candid the subject is should never be looking toward the camera... :) Oh well that's how the cookie crumbles....

Thanks for posting, Becky.

Beautiful shot; perhaps it was not seen as a true candid; look to posed...?

Apparently my tastes are too mainstream for this thread! :-)

My Candid 1st, 2nd, 3rd:

I was a little more original with my Pure 1, 2 & 3:

I didn't vote in Transitions.

In candids the top winners were all great, but I liked these also:

To me they all seemed candid.
