Situation:
I have 188 band photos in RAW cr2 format. The band wants to see them all online because they are 150+ miles away.

What would be the best way to give them jpegs so they don't have to deal with .cr2, which they may/not know how to view/edit.

I have the Canon software, Photoshop CS2, an old version of ACDSee that can do html galleries, and porta 0.99.

You can also if you want to open CS2, Open DIalog, Select all the CR2's. ACR will open and process multiple files under the same settings at the same time.

Since you have CS2 you can use bridge todo the same probly easier not sure if its any faster.

I have been using FastStone for a few months for the first cut (before doing real RAW processing). It's got some nice little features (little rough still) and can batch a lot of .CR2 files to .JPG with various settings and drop them straight into email for you (with drop shadows & stuff if you like).

Did I mention it's free :-)

Try Canon's Digital Photo Pro (DPP). Its great for working on large numbers of pictures, and has batch capability.

Not to steal your thread :) but DPP came with my camera and I have been using it for a while now. It use to work just fine but now when I use it, it will freeze after processing only a few programs. I don't have CS2. Would any of these freeware programs work just as good a DPP and use less space on my computer. I think why my computer freezes is because of low amounts of Hard Drive and Ram space on my computer.

Again sorry to steal away from your thread, but at least it is the same topic. :)

Update:
I used FastStone as suggested by robs. It converted 159 cr2 in 13 minutes to jpegs. I zipped them and gave the band a link to the zip file. (no edits/adjustments/resizes)

The only problem I have is that 192mb of jpegs zipped to 196mb.
I tried differnet compression ratios at zip and rar.
They all turned out to be greater than the original 192mb.
But it is easier than making a webpage with 159 links... :)
My upload speed sucks with roadrunner and I'm half done at about an hour into the upload.

thanks to philup for the photshop tutorial

Thats not actually a real problem. The only way your going to get the jpegs in a rar to be smaller is by making it a solid archive.

But ziping 7zipping and straight raring it wont make it smaller its already compressed. (7zip btw default solid archives RAR optional)

Well he already has CS2/Bridge, i would suggest free software and software he has over software he has to buy first.

Worth a shot for a project he has to get done. It's much faster and beter than Bridge/CS2. And free for 30 days. Long enough to get th job done/

Ditto what Leroy said, I just got done with a 500+ photo shoot that needed to be to a video editor today. Did I mention that I was out of town and got back on Wednesday of last week? I used Lightroom to do most of the major editing / adjustments and then exported the entire batch of photos to JPEG. Fast friendly and for large projects it's a no brainer IMHO.

Go get the demo.
