LOL There are dozens of thread on DPC about them. Do a quick search. They're a scam. Pure and simple.

short answer yes. search the fourms for several threads about it.

it's kinda a vanity press thing.

you submit a picture, then they want you to keep paying to get it published. the more you pay, the further you go, type of thing.

i wouldn't call it a scam, but it is close. i guess i would call it a sca -- you know, just short of a scam. others might not be so nice.

I had a photo supposedly printed in one of their books years ago but I never purchased the book. I don't think it is a scam really but I couldn't afford the book, it was at least 100.00 & I don't know the validity of those folks. It seemed like everyone that submitted a picture on there won a spot in the book. Or maybe everyone that purchased a book had their photo printed in it. I searched my name on their site & it isn't even there anymore. Perhaps more research would help you answer this question better. I didn't fool with them.

If your picture is good enough for their book, they should be paying you, or at least asking "pretty please"...not charging you.

the scam part comes in at the end of the year when you (and everyone else in the world) get the letter saying you won and they want you to come see it presented HUGE. Then they tell you about the trophy you will get and how much you have to pay for it, supposedly for shipping and such. I was excited when I got my first one but then after submitting a pretty crappy image and still getting the letter I knew something was up.

I did by the way buy one of the books, it is nice and has a ton of images it in...small images mind you.

eta, someone said their is a poetry.com that is exactly the same and probably even the same company.

I have had the same letter
They also said that they were sorry I couldn't make it to the presentation but can send me a crystal trophy if I pay $169 dollars for packing and post LOL!
They also keep mailing me on how my image would look great on a canvas and when I said no they kept asking me to buy the book
They are very persistant I have only ever uploaded one image and I dont need to see it or buy it in a book, as it's already in the N Z camera club book
I can alo see the photo any time I wish
Another thing they said was they needed me to pay for it to be presented to the Forum of world reknown photographers for special achievment
and asking me to join the group
I am so sick of it
So dont answer or you will only get more emails
Regards
Sally

so they get money from photographers to use the photos (???)
then they sell the book and make further profit.
wow, smart minds must be at work behind that company!

It was like $300...but they said they are paying alot to host it there...people all over the world will be coming and they told me I could make my money back selling prints there in like five minutes. I'm totally siked!!

I really don't want to see you get taken, these guy send out hundreds of form letters saying the same thing. It probably has a sample of you photo on and something copyright info. but if its the guys I'm thinking of they will give you a little cheap cup, pass you along, bleed you dry of money and there will be a hundred or so just like you.
I have dodged these people for years. Remember New York, is a very expensive place.
Just really do your homework and make sure you know what you are getting into.

I could be very wrong and I hope I am. congratulation enjoy New York!

Yea they said it would be kinda expensive to get down there with airfare, paying my dues, buying the plaque, and the $400 dollar fee to take their class to get certified to be able to speak...once I do that I can get on the lecture circuit, that pays well they said. Oh and selling prints, they said I could make upwards to $8000 if I come prepared with prints and willing to sign them.
