But lust is a powerful emotion!

On Tuesday I had a chance to test drive a 2008 Lamborghini Gallardo. It has 10 cylinders, 520 horsepower, and accelerates 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds. Thought I'd share a few pictures.

For the record, when I received the invitation I told the salesman, "I am not in the market for a new car. If I were, I could not afford this one. But if the offer to drive one is still open, I'd love to!"

He said, "Sure. You'll probably tell all your friends." and I guess I am.

For the record (II), I have no relationship with Lamborghini or the dealership. But I do like fast cars. Although the care will do 195 mph top speed, I didn't exceed 105 mph on the public highways where I drove it.

As luck would have it, the car I drive regularly was in the shop for a warranty repair. So the temptation to drive this was great. While I was behind the wheel, perhaps you "felt a disturbance in the Force.". I certainly did.

Not sure exactly, but tax, license, out the door ... maybe USD 250,000.

Funny thing, ... when I was prepping the picture for upload, I had to clone out a gazillion bugs plastered to the front of the car. They gave their lives that this picture might live!

These newer super cars seem to be getting more and more what somebody's great aunt should be driving.. I mean they've lost their original x factor.. they've tamed them up so much.. [eg.. ferrari..gag]
I'm hoping the manufacturers have learnt their lesson and poduced something with a little less zen..

Yah, I know what you mean. I remember fondly the days of oil leaks on the garage floor, 3-days-out-of-30 in the shop to keep 'em running, parts falling off due to hyper-stiff suspension, 6 week waits for new ones, ... my heart beats a little faster at the thought!. Best things about the good-ole-days ... is that they're gone. If zen equates to reliability, performance, safety ... I'm a zen-baby!

I wish I would fit in such a ride...but it is so fast I would get to my destination before I start cramping. :-P

Nice Pics and I am sure a great drive!

Just think how much horsepower it would have it they hadn't left off the other 2 cylinders. Those car makes are always trying to cut corners to raise profits.

:D

How many hot babes did you pick up during the test drive?

it would be interesting to see it in a drag race with an all-electric Tesla Roadster, which also does 0-60 in under four seconds ... and is a relative bargain at only about $100,000.

Certainly would be fun to test drive, but could never imagine actually owning one. Cars like these are almost always driven by balding guys in their 40s/50s with the heavy stench of a rampaging inferiority complex and/or a major post-divorce mid-life crisis.

I use to always sort of imagine that these types of cars were never actually owned by real (aka, not celebrity) people, but rented out by people when they wanted to have a little fun. Having spent a couple of summers in Chicago, however, you do see these down in the Loop or in the rest of the business district being used as commuter cars. Go figure - to each his own, I guess.

But what do I know. I lived 8 years in Seattle without a car, and can't wait to move up to Chicago permanently so that I can ditch my current hoopdi and once again be 4-wheel free.

If you got the money for that, you are paying someone else to bring you your groceries...

No, if you have money for that, you pay people to eat for you...
