1. Trying to make people feel bad for playing a game
2. Trying to get everyone to vote low as to agree with you're opinion
3. Trying to say your shot is better than everyone elses before the results are in

Have I missed one?

4. Having the opinion that the majority of the entries sucked and an overwhelming need to share.

5. Because it is easier to make general sweeping statements than to leave individual critiques and suggestions for improvement.

That´s a game! And a way to improve yourself.

Interesting...

First, in an arbitrary situation like DPC can you expect anything more than 'playing the game' during the challenge week? We expect it every week, but are we justified? No!

Second, should we try to get others to vote higher on OUR own images but lower on others? No, but we do it all the time.

Third, is it wrong to espress our personal opinion that the majority of entries are 'low quality'. No, nothing wrong with that at all. Any voter that would change their outlook and vote differently on a challenge based on something as shallow as that probably should refrain from voting in the first place.

Lastly, should voters refrain from making generalized statements about challenges based on their personal views? No. What would be wrong is for a voter to assume others know what they are talking about and vote with them.

Funny, but I must have an overly healthy sense of self esteem, I never seem to think those statements apply to MY photo...LOL. (Even my crappy score will not convince me!!)

I won't add to the list but will say this as a post script...

Truly, as the artist, your honest assessment of your own work should far outweigh the generalizations (misguided or otherwise) of others.

Suprisingly I find that in almost every challenge half the entries are worse than the other half...

Well, the voting glass may be half empty or half full...but either way?

We all have to drink it!

Mine, maybe would have had damp summer night, fireflies and a lamp... :)

I second this :) I love fireflies and they should be out in abundance in about 2 months :)

dude also by saying yours is in the cityscaoe section is like me saying what section mine is in...and by saying you had "other " long exposures i can assume this was a short w/ flash exposure...thus, you have already influenced people on what to expect for your photograph...and proboble lowering everyones opinions about cityscape shots because you made such a big deal about it...

first i have not tried to lower anything. if you look at what i said there was lots of nice cityscapes. that said most cityscapes has enough light for 30 second exposure at mid apreture. by long night exposures i meant 4-8 min landscapes taken in the dark. and if you look at everyone else comments looks like you are the only one making big deal out of this

Just a reminder to all that it's best to discuss challenges after the results are announced, and especially don't mention or refer to (directly or indirectly) to any particular challenge entry while it's still in voting.
