I'm looking for an easy way to generate galleries of photos to upload to my website. I have a website space already, and it would be great to create a gallery, something like PBase, where I can upload family snapshots, as well as artistic photo galleries or whatever else, organised into galleries where I can write words around the galleries and comment on individual photos if I like.
Any suggestions? Should I just get a pbase account?
My only problem with dpchallenge galleries is that they don't seem to allow much scope for adding comments to the galleries. :)

It isn't exactly what you are looking for but SmugMug would do the trick. I am quite happy with it. It is so easy to use. You can see my account at www.callstudios.us.
Edit: My site isn't a very good example because I haven't added any comments to my pictures but the option does exist. You can also allow others to make comments on your photos.

| There are many freeware Flash/PHP etc based galleries out there which are easy to set up. Have a look at Simpleviewer. |

both are very good!!!
coppermine is probably the most like pbase ... as long as you can set up a mysql database, you'll be ok.
most photo galleries will require a database, so if you don't know much about mysql, now's the time to read up. not much work is required though, aside from setting up a database name, username, password and permissions. most of those are just click and choose!! :)

Pixelpost etc are great for Photoblogs - posting and displaying one photo at a time. You may also want to check out Gallery which is designed with the intention of letting you post multiple sets of images. They've got plenty of sample galleries etc linked on their site so you can see how it works.

It doesn't seem popular around here but I think it rocks... Google's
Picasa. They are quite generous with their web space too. 1GB I think... |

you can also try going to http://www.hotscripts.com and search for galleries there, there are quite a few free and pay ones listed.
