Well bought a new Canon 5D and Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L IS. Sent in the rebate exacly as required. Just got a single check for the camera (not doubled as per program) and a postcard saying the lens was dissaproved because I didn't sent warantee card. What a bunch of #&%$. They got everything. Must be cheap stupid contract labor at the rebate center. For everyone else watch yours closely.

Do you have copies of what you sent? Call Canon Customer Service and complain. The problems with the rebate processor (Young America) are well known. Canon can bring pressure to make sure that you get what you have coming to you.

I got my rebate for the 5D plus the 24-70 2.8L. I know, that doesn't lessen the frustration... but at least you know they aren't purposely trying to rip everyone off. Call 'em and see what happens.

There was a thread recently about rebates.

Yes, call and complain. I had something similar happen with 3 SanDisk rebates...not quite the dollar figure you're looking at, but still. I had even called Sigma prior to mailing the rebates to find out if they'd need to be mailed separately or together, or what. I did exactly as they said and I still got the little card in the mail saying it wasn't right. I called them up and told them I sent everything correctly and without hesitation they said, "Your rebate will be in the mail shortly." And it was.

Good luck!

I got mine the mail the other day exactly as it should've been. Call them. I think you'll be surprised to find out how accomodating they are.

Just call and raise hell with them. My wife called on my behalf when I had the same problem. She gets feisty when it comes to money.... got my check the following week! ;-)

I gave Canon a call, easy and nice 5 minutes, the other $400 is on the way. Without asking her about it, it sounded like it was a common problem. They had what they needed all the time.

I got the no vbar code card as well. Wonder who cut the f* great holes in the boxes on my desk :-/ Gota call them and hassle them also.... Considering I stapeled the cut outs to the form with my name, it's hard to see how they missed it :-)

I got my rebate when I bought my 30D and the EF17-40mm within 2 weeks. They direct deposited it into my account! :) No dramas here!

I got that same letter about my 10-22. they were right - i didn't put that in the envelope...so I sent it off to them and got my money.

Same week I got a letter from Bill (aka Microsoft) telling me i fogto the BOX TOP for a keyboard/mouse I bought....excuse me? Oh well I figured as I threw the box out long ago. Then the check arrives 3 weeks later...I hope vista works better than their rebate dept!

I got a letter saying I didn't send in the upc on my 580ex flash I bought. I did though. I called and complained and they checked something in the computer and told me they in fact did get it and now they are sending me a check. Shady.

Maybe it's different in Canada. There aren't rebates on everything, in every store.

For instance. I walked into Best Buy to get a PC, monitor, and printer as a gift for my wife a while ago. I got it all in the cart, close to $2,000 worth of stuff.

I told the salesman, "I don't want to deal with any of these rebates, filling out the forms and mailing them is a waste of my time, so you can just take the rebates off here and now, please and thankyou." He didn't seem too surprised.

He rung everything up and it came out the the pre-rabate price. I told him again to take off all the rebates, I didn't want to deal with them. He said he couldn't. I said I wouldn't buy it if I had to send in all the rebates.

He stared at me.
I stared at him.
We stared at each other.

I said goodbye, left everything on the counter, and walked out of the store and went down the street to a smaller shop and bought everything I needed with no rebates involved. That was a year ago.

It sounds to me like all you poor sods in the good ol' USA don't really have any choice in the matter. I've bought a fair bit of camera gear and have never had a rebate forced on me. If I did, I'd walk. I think it's about time you Yankees had another Boston Tea Party, because you're being ripped off.

that is very ignorant of you. I am a camera salesman and we are not able to take mail in rebates right there. you have to mail them in, not the retailer. simple as that

I got both my pentax lens rebates, one for the 10-17mm fish-eye and one for the 50mm 1.4

Wow, $400 rebate on the canon!
Thats how much I spend on my istDL with kit lens, lol...

I went with a sigma flash over the pentax because of the pentax rebate.

The sigma sounded as good and the price was about the same after the pentax rebate.

Bought sigma for less and did not have to wait for any rebate.
