On the vote page, I think photos should be sorted by your vote in descending order... so all photos which you have given a high vote to will be at the top of the page and low vote photos will be lower down the page.

If this is implemented, voters can first run through all the photos, viewing them individually and giving each of them a rough vote. After all the photos have been rough voted, the voter would return to the vote page and compare his/her votes and review the photos in order of vote (10s first then 9s etc)... it then becomes nice and easy to compare photos and make your detailed/final votes in the order of your preference.

But voters must be made aware that some photos can get equal votes. Voters should be encouraged to vote on all photos and not just vote on the best 10.

I think this vote sorting idea will make it much easier to compare your votes and make good/fair votes.

I noticed with the Macro challenge, as I go through the voting process I am pretty certain that my voting criteria is changing.. and I’m having trouble remembering which photo got which vote and how it compares to the current photo I’m voting on... Now if this is happening with 50 odd photos, what is going to happen when there are 100s of photos??? (by the way, i think a new method might have to be invented if there are 100s of photos???)

Man, sorry about the long story.. I hope it makes sense

How does the forum feel about this idea??

I think this is a major suggestion because I have been having a hard time navigating the site.

You guys are doing a great job with the site. The fact that you take site suggestions shows that you are interested in developing the best possible site for the users. Thanks.

Drop me an email if you need any help with the menu system. I would be glad to help.

I second this motion. However, I think it should not sort them like this until AFTER you have voted on all of them. I also think you should then be able to change your votes on the main page (but certainly not at first).

Another thing I find disturbing about the voting system is that the images are displayed in the same order to everybody. I think they should be displayed in a different order to each user, rather than in the order of submission. That way people who submit late don't get screwed by:

1)People getting tired of voting before getting to the last pictures.

2)People voting low because they saw some amazing pictures in the beginning, and their voting criteria changed.

I live in an area of noisy phone lines. I usually see 26400 transmit speed, so to vote on 49 pictures that take many seconds to load each one is not very practical. I am new here, so will see how it goes.

Sorry for the late reply -- we both have seen the post and were waiting to see what the reply to it was like. We're going to implement it -- random display of photos (vs. shown by order of submission) and then shown by vote once you've finished voting. I mean, you can't argue with a math major, can you?
