I have, after much toil, finally come up with something I like for this week's challenge. I guess I'm a little worried though about people not understanding where I'm coming from if they have never heard of the book I chose. I hope that when you vote, you'll look up the title (or the meaning of it) before you click 2 for not meeting the challenge. :)

Seems a bit more work to do, but this way, we improve our photographs AND extend our literary knowledge. How cool is that? :)

Depending on the time I have. I probably won't do the research on the book title. If your photo speaks for itself that may just be enough.

I don't think I would give it a lower score because it's a book I've never heard of. I believe in this challenge we may find some really creative and original concepts. Which is something I'm looking for.

Put the title of your book as tour submission title. A zillion books out there.

Plus, it will do your score much better if they know what they are looking at. : )

I suppose part of my concern is that the title of the book (thereby the title of the photo) contains some wording that may be unfamiliar to some.

Aw, heck... mayve I'm just not giving DPCer's in general enough credit. :)

Apologies. Honestly, I think the photo is great, so if you folk like it, that's just icing on the cake. :)

There are many people who vote the picture before seeing the title. I however do check the title and i give lot of importance to the title. However i must point out... some check the picture and make a judgement whether the image fits in to the challenge without looking the title. The magic of title is that it can fit an image into a challenge even if the image doesnt actually qualify for the challenge...*varies with the symbolic meaning..

I hope atleast on this challenge, enough importance will be given to the title. :)

In this particular challenge, the title is EXTEMELY important, as not only is it the title of your picture (and as such should always be relevant), but it is also the title of a book. So, voters in this case definitely should be looking at the title. Anyone who doesnt is missing the point of the challenge!

I think you absolutely have right. I think I will write the book title for the shot, anyway, I am not sure I needed a title at all. If I don't know the book - that can happen easily, 99% -, I won't score it lower than in case I would know it.

The way I interpret the challenge, the photo doesn't have to relate to the book at all. It merely needs to have an appropriate title which also happens to be the title of some book. For example, a photo of a New England clam bake on the beach might be given the title "The South Beach Diet", even though the book with that title has nothing to do with clam bakes. I would give such a photo medium points for meeting the challenge since the title is somewhat of a stretch. Or if you could get in a rocket and take a picture of the entire far side of the moon, you could call the photo "The Complete Far Side". For that one, I'd first ask for a DQ (the far side of the moon is completely lit only during a new moon so the photo couldn't have been taken within the challenge dates), then vote as if it were legal and give extra points for meeting the challenge very well.

Agreed. This is what I hope most will be like. But if you don't know the book, and don't want to believe it's a title, hit Amazon. :)

Or took along a MONSTER umbrella to reflect sunlight, that they also used as a light-sail to reach the desired location.

Those newer camera's with the wireless upload capability are handy for this kind of assignement too.

Better not procrastinate on this one though; that 1.5 second lag time in radio transmissions might be just enough to miss the deadline, unless someone's recently developed faster-than-light photography ...
