Yesterday, my daughter, Kristin ( flaggirl) received the letter she's been wanting to arrive for a long time. She has been officially accepted to attend the Maryland Institute College of Art in the fall.
Now, lets just hope her portfolio is good enogh to really impress the scholarship jury. At $27,840/year (and that's only the tuition, add housing & books & supplies), she's going to need lots of scholarship money. They had already awarded her $3,000/year based on her work during a month long summer program last year, but that's just a drop in the bucket.
She has dreamed of attending art school since about the 4th grade. She's also been accepted to Towson University (where she can actually attend tuition free, as I work for the University System of Maryland). They have a decent art program, and come recommended as a backup by several people at Maryland Institute, but it just doesn't have that "art school" prestige that will look good on a resume`.
She wants to major in Illustration. You can see some of her stuff at her Deviant Art page.

Congrats, Dad! You must be very proud. With kids, the wonder outweighs the worry, doesn't it? lol! :)

Bringing it back up, because the scholarship letter came today.....
SHE'S GOING TO ART SCHOOL!!!!! And the one she wants...Maryland Institute College of Art.
She received four scholarships totaling $52,000 over four years. Combine that with the generous financial aid grants and low interest student loans, Mom & Dad can swing the rest. She'll be living at home and commuting, but she's okay with that.
I'd like to think that it was my photographs of her artwork that we sent to them that got her the big money, but I'm pretty sure that wasn't it.
She'll be turning down $20,000 each from two other schools and $4,000 from her "safe school". (That $96,000 total scholarship offers. So far.)
Once again, I'm a really PROUD DAD.

thats awesome.... being a senior at Villanova, I can understand how much a little money can go a long way... its so expensive here!!
